Charging to full all the time knackers the battery. Charging to near full by default extends the life
Looks like it’s telling you why - you rarely need the full battery, but it gives you the ‘Charge to Full’ option if you really want to.
I’d just leave it to do its thing -

Can someone explain why my macbook often doesn't charge when plugged in?
Because it has learned that it is rarely being used on battery, and so it avoids actually charging to 100%, as this ages the battery faster.
Haha, duncs beat me to it 🙂

The OS does this to protect the battery. If you always use it plugged in, it isn’t good for the battery to be kept at 100% all the time.
Double ninja’d. Been told three times now, so hopefully this makes sense

Ok, that's good news. Thanks all for the reassurance! I've just updated OS but was worried this was a problem. I'll let it be

Unsure if this is the right thread but hopefully so.
My partner was pick-pocketed in November, and their iPhone stolen. Thankfully we are insured through our bank account (big up Nationwide) so knew it would be replaced.
O2 froze the sim and issued a new one. We went to the Apple store to freeze/clear the iPhone as my partner was struggling to get into their iCloud account.
They have just received the below text. How is best to respond, and stop oversight of personal information. My partner doesn't want the phone back, but definitely wants to stop them having any access to their information.

Is that the thief trying to get you to respond to get some information? Otherwise the text doesn't make any sense.

I replaced on 2020 M1 macbook air and official apple price was £159

I really don't know if it is the thief or whoever bought the phone.
The phone was locked at time of theft but unsure what would still show through with a new sim in it.
We can now remove the phone from their iCloud account which I believe (but unsure) deletes all information from the old phone, but thought we had done that before so very confused by the above.
Does removing iPhone from iCloud genuinely clear all data and remove any access to personal data? TBH, I thought we had done that in the Apple Store so unsure what to do or how to respond.

Isn't there a nuclear option you could set in Find My? Did you do this? https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/iphone/iph21a030ae3/ios
This thread might help? https://discussions.apple.com/thread/253189147?sortBy=rank
Also, I thought mobile provider can brick a phone using the imei number?
-
• #21863
If it's showing on findmy you can wipe it remotely, but seems very weird as they can't be using the phone without an iCloud account.
At a guess I would say that they can't shift it cause it's still locked to your account. If you remove it from your account, they can sell it on.
I'm trying to get Lyca to blacklist the phone I had stolen via the iemi number but they are not being very useful. I can't get an insurance replacement until they do.

This feels like a scam to me. I’d avoid replying at all. Check on find my etc. if it was locked and all you’ve changed passwords, bank cards etc then I suspect they’re fishing - not sure what for exactly but treat it as very suspect
If they were getting your messages and calls then they wouldn’t be able to send you that message

• #21865
I imagine they're trying to find a way to get it unlocked so they can reset it and sell it, and they're hoping to coerce you into giving them some unlock code or similar. Maybe the 'did you make an insurance claim' would then lead into some sort of "so you've not lost any money then - great, oh did I mention I bought this phone for my poor sick mother and she'll be devastated if we can't get it working" tale
-
• #21866
this is a common scam to get you to release the device to they can use it
-
• #21867
Thank you all - we were a bit startled by the message having thought we had cleared/bricked the phone and thinking they did have access to what was claimed. Thinking logically it is a scam to help free up that phone, especially so with it showing as being in The Philippines. Not long read up on the difference between 'erase this device' (bricks it) vs 'remove this device' (frees it up for someone else) and have erased it. I should reply to the text and make them pose with a fish, or loaf of bread on their head to release the phone but just going to move on from this one.

Sorry, this makes me laugh, the desperation! If they are really concerned about your data, they'd have found a way to return the phone to you.
I am sorry your partner lost their phone though.

Why is there still no dark Magic Keyboard (a small one, without the Numpad I mean)?
My shoulder hurts from having my right arm angled out all the time, seriously.
And no I won't have a white one, white keyboards suck.Could I actually buy a white one, spraypaint it black (or dark grey), and then switch-over the black keycaps from my big black Magic Keyboard?

Studio Display update: less than six months in and my monitor has bricked itself. An on-and-off issue with it booting in 'update' mode has developed into a doom loop of constant restarts. Apple have been less than helpful tbh... ("have you tried unplugging it?") so driving it to the store in Manchester next week (I'm in Kendal) for a repair. With a little research, it seems like a fairly common problem. Big shame because it's sooooo lovely to work on.

😩
I'm tempted to get one but it's not the first time I read this. Feels like they've over engineered this one, no?
Can someone explain why my macbook often doesn't charge when plugged in? I'm getting this, rather than the lightening strike icon...
