Have an older packlite jacket that is my go-to on the bike waterproof. As someone who sweats a lot I'm still amazed at how well (compared to other stuff) it breathes for something that's totally waterproof

That's good to know... still in the early stages yet but I'll keep an eye out for one

Does anyone have any experience of Rivelo? I UTFS but nothing. Doesn't bode well.

^^ I've got the Gore Paclite as well. It might breathe well compared to other jackets, but don't expect to stay dry during hard rides / runs. I'm usually soaked inside mine even after 30 mins, but I don't mind as I'm still warm thanks to wool base layer(s)

I use either a cheap Madison softshell type jacket or a hand-me-down Lusso windproof thing or a massive rain cape that flaps like a bastard.
I want something that's warmer, drier, aero and suitable for riding all day and night in the winter. I'm guessing a form-fitting race style thing that might be a bit lighter than what people normal consider 'jackets' but designed to wear over a base + jersey combo. Any wonderful solutions that I'll love? Castelli options seem nice but pretty spendy.

Just get a pro team softshell .. they should have XXXXL in stock

I like the simplicity of this. Basically a gabba jacket. Easier to layer under.

I'm surprised you managed to type so many XXXs given your stamina...
Serious question: What's the Pro Team vs. the Classic one and why is the Classic £40 more?

Not sure a jersey is up to the job. I do like the idea of not covering my jersey pockets but.. like.. cold and shit...

I wonder how their new tech compares with Cuben Fibre stuff:

you NEED the pro team; classic is for mamils ;)
Its high tech innit. Polartec shits over Goretex etc.

Is the Pro Team cut for skinny buggers? I still need to fit into it.
And what of the Hard Shell option?
Too much choice!

Go and try both in Rapha shop. Stop wearing naff stuff you deserve better ;)
Do you really need hardshell? IME staying warm > staying dry. That softshell will do excellent job to keep you warm and relatively dry. Its labelled water resistant; I've worn the old version in torrential rain and although you get wet it dries quick and keeps you warm. Try it; if you still feel the need for a hardshell theres plenty out there.

They are both jackets.
The stolengoat isn't much of a shell though. My favourite, I think, is the sportful Neopro. Pricey though. The R&D has some insulation, and weather repellent outer shell.
None of my suggestions are totally waterproof. For long rides that's a big ask. So go warm, breathable, and water repellent instead.
Or get a packable rain jacket, and a thermal windproof jersey.

Thanks for the compliment.
I'm a tightarse though. I like to kill stuff before buying new stuff.
At the moment though it's me that's dying faster than the kit. :S -

I am sure the world TT champion will get a discount if asked nicely.
Take your (new) passport.

I spent my ultimate jacket funds on a MTB frame. Whoops.
So I'm currently in a long sleeve woolen Base Layer, hand-me-down long sleeve gabba, and fluoro waterproof.
I could stash the waterproof. But the gabba in black. I can't risk anyone ever saying 'sorry didn't see you in that black top'. I'd inflate their lungs with Pitstop via a nostril and spend a long time in prison.

Need to sort myself out with a new jacket sooner rather than later... been looking at the Gore range as I don't wanna spend loads as I'll be going offroad as well... love the Cadence windproof jacket, but I don't think it'll be up to much on the old waterproof front! Anyone using Gore at all?
