Cheers!
Yes - it's a Custom Shop '57 re-issue. Essentially I think it's an AVRI that someone at Fender has taken a sander to, possibly has nicer woods.
I was never sure about the whole relic thing but I had a go on one of those Mexican-made "Roadworn" ones and they just felt great to play, I struggled with the idea of paying the kind of money they want for a "new" Roadworn though. This one came up used at not a huge amount more than the Roadworns and is the nicest example of a P I've played & I've trialed basses from every decade since the 60's in my search.
It's just awesome to play - "soft-V" profile, gently broken in with the relic'ing, quarter-sawn maple neck. Hand-wound pickup sounds mighty too. One of my bands is quite heavy so it's nice not to have to worry about it getting knocked on stage either!

only prob i have with straight up p-basses is there's not much by way of bridge based finger playing options. thicker nut also takes some getting used to if you've only ever played j-basses and have carnival hands. for knee slung plectrum mashing it's poifect.

You should see how low our bass player slings his P-bass... It's monstrous...
-

slinging it low is very reassuring for the audience. no fuckin' slap bass solos.

I don't know how he does it, looks very uncomfortable... He has to get custom made starps...

Will hold off on the Jazzmaster for now, got a great deal on a used one of these:
Looks rad in the flesh and the finish has amazing (if fake) patina.

That looks ace... I'm definitely middle aged, totally love white strats...

• #4634
Yep - that's lovely. Best colour for a strat.

I'm not sure if he is advertising it tbh, he just sent me a mail asking if I knew anyone who would be interested - he's an old boy with six guitars remaining apparently and I got the feeling he's collecting and not playing most of them and can't be bothered with the fees/hassle of ebay etc. He was very pleased I could collect from him on a trip up to London.

That's pretty tempting even though I'm not in the market for a Strat either.
Just agreed to but BQ's Dano bass. Woot!

That is an insane price, what else has he got? Jag? 😬😋

Hey! Can you guys help me out? Where will I find a stop tailpiece like this one? It's for an electric mandolin...
-
• #4647
That picture is a home made one I think that someone knocked up here:

You may know that already. I assume he made the whole thing from a block of alumnium

Yeah, that's where I got it from... I could probably get one CNC'd then drilled at a push, currently making do with a Les Paul bass bridge so two strings are going through each hole which is rubbish...

aah - wondered if a bass one could be used.
These guys sell 8 string stop tails and bridges - no idea about sizes and somewhat pricey:

I've had a Eureka! moment, twelve string tailpiece!
My mate who built the mandolin has got a 12str Vox Phantom he's gonna try on it... Let's see how we go... I've had the thing for 20yrs but it's been unplayable for the last ten, gf dropped it and smashed the scratchplate...
Mate that P Bass is beautiful. Is it the 50s RI one? Looks relic'd tho. I had a 50s RI in my old band. Black with Gold anodised pickguard, flatwoulds and weird backwards tuners. Loved it. Miss it.
