  • ihonestly it just seemed like a bunch of old blokes in cover bands with 100000 pedals, a les paul and an expensive amp. friendly enough though

you shut your dirty whore mouth!

/uhf uhf... struggles to get out of seat

  • haha. totally. i quite home recording forums. tape-op can be good. i stumbled across nice looking one today while researching reel to reel 8 tracks!

i think the thing is that it's nice chatting about guitars with people who are interested, think they're cool, know their stuff and use them regularly. a lot of guitar websites are overrun with either bullsh*tting kids pretending they know everything (or that what ever they happen to hav eis the BEST THING EVAH) and ageing gearsnobs and collectors who obsess about ridiculously inaccesible and rare stuff and dismiss anything perecived as budget or lacking prestige.

i think that's why it's often nice to discuss guitars on a bike forum. i have been know to start bicycle threads on music forums too for similar reasons.

    ha!
sorry i didn't mean to offend - are you on there?

  • good god no. got the ropey cover band angle covered tho.

    yeah this is completely true.

like you say, it works both ways.

Agree interesting point always more fun to interact with people you've got at least 2 things in common.

  • day off to go do some mixing/overdubing in soup studios in hanbury street today. hopefully get to play with some cool guitars again. might see if i can borrow a decent banjo to stick on one track. woohoo!

  • mine all mine. so help me god.

  • Tasty. More pics?

  • i would, but they show the rather iffy gold/brass eightees horrorshow hardware. rattlecans incoming.

/always had a jones on for spectors. beeyoodiful pieces of work.

  • I'm currently addicted to reading guitar building forums.

This on tdpri is suitably epic http://www.tdpri.com/forum/2011-tdpri-tele-build-challenge/263778-scatter-lees-2011-tdpri-build-challenge-thread.html

My les paul.com has some good stuff - someone building a les paul from scratch in a one bed flat only using hand tools http://www.mylespaul.com/forums/luthiers-corner/129825-barnabys-lp-scratch-build-hand-tools-only.html
kinda makes me want to have a go doing the same thing. I've built a few guitars before in my teenage years and I'm continually itching to build more. Maybe when I've got a spare second in my life again, and no unfinished bikes to finish.

  • i fancy building an amp, but it looks more expensive than just buying one to be honest..

They are lovely indeed. Are you really going to rattlecan it?

Hobby of mine also. I've built three so far. The Project Guitar forums were always the most useful I found.

It's the potential for a fiery death that puts me off tbh. Soldering's not my strong point.

just the hardware. im not a complete philistine ;)

  • Phew.

Serious question though: Are you going to rattlecan the hardware? I can't see that working out very well. Or did you mean you were going to alter its colour some other way?

  • fair enough question. no i genuinely want it not gold. i took a trip to the denmark street today and the bloke at tim martins who builds guitars for a living reckoned thats pretty much the best quick n easy way to do it. matte the surface up first with some steel wool and get yer spray on.

unless anyone is having a powdercoat run...

  • oh dude, just leave it be! is what it is!*

*pretty cool in a sick kinda way.

  • I confess that I quite like gold hardware in conjunction with a natural finish.

Intrigued by the idea of spraying the hardware now. If you do it, take lots of pics.

  • Oh, dooks - you still got the 'screamer? I'm still interested and back in the country now.

  • gold hardware just screams 'christian youth group band'. still, cant wait to plug it in. played one in the states and they're growly as heck.

  • would anyone be interested in a squier telecaster custom 2 ? i want a bass guitar and i need to clear space and funds, it's just under a year old, and hasn't had much use, i'm thinking around £130ish

  • good deal that, P90s are the best.

Yep, here and sill available. Pm me for details. I'll plug it in and check it's all good.
