  • just noticed the power reserve.. looking good

  • Ah. I was sure I'd set up a notification as well, but apparently not.

If you ever want to sell it let me know.

  • Think it's 40mm

  • If that's the case, TS sucks.

  • I really want to see that Citizen IRL, those numerals on second glance look pretty huge. Otherwise could be a great beater.

  • So, wasn't planning it but bought a Seiko Padi Samuri (SRPB99). The one I got is a Japanese one, however I don't think they make any other version.

Really loving it, but god damn you Seiko for stupid collar pins in bracelet!

  • i fucking hate their collar pin system

  • When you have the right tool,it makes things a lot easier. But I reckon if you ran a magnet over the carpet in my office you'd find about fifty of the fucking things that have pinged off over the years.

  • It was a piece of piss adjusting one of those with a broken-off bit of paper clip. Just be careful and slow.

  • I've never thought to ask in here before. This is my granddad's watch, he got it to mark 25 years in the same job. When he passed away it was passed on to my dad and when my dad passed away it was passed on to me. I'd love to know a bit more about it. Where should I start looking for information?

  • Where should I start looking for information?

Incredibly trite answer is, on the inside. Can you open the back?

  • I've seen a lot of long service record omegas, but as coppithat says, the real info is on the inside.

That one looks in cracking condition though.

  • I'll see how easy it is to open up. I don't want to mess about with it too much though. @Stonehedge, when you say you've seen a lot of long service Omegas, is this a particularly common model, are Omegas well known for being given as gifts for long service? I honestly know nothing about watches so don't be afraid to be patronising.

  • the guilloche dial really gives this an edge visually. lavly!

  • Has anyone seen/ used undone.com? Customised watches, seemingly cheap but fun.

  • hah yeah once I worked out how the collar pins go, it was very easy. At least these ones fit on the middle of the link, rather than the outside. There was nothing at all in the book on how to do it!

@spunk_nautical I am really happy with it, looks better in person!

  • I haven’t @TRA but Fratello watched and a blog to watch did fairly comprehensive reviews. Seem fairly non biased.

  • Based on what I have seen/owned I think Omega was the usual choice for long service awards in the UK. I've owned gold and steel omegas issued for long service by East Midlands Gas, British Rail, several accountancy firms and a bank.

In terms of models, I've seen Seamaster 600 more than anything which is visually very similar to your one. I sold a long service Omega to @Tenderloin recently, perhaps he has some photos. I don't know ow what your model is though as the dial is sterile and the movement will be the biggest clue.

I did some calculations a few years ago, trying to figure out whether these watches have appreciated or depreciated in value since they were given. Based on a 1960s and a 1970s one that I used to own, they seem to be worth almost exactly what they were when originally purchased when adjusted for inflation . In the case of my ones, about £300. There will of course be rarities and oddities which are more collectable depending on model and condition.

  • Ray Mears watch chase is on, John Lewis Oxford Street will send me it but want to charge me £60 postage?!? Weird... They're happy to let an 'alternative shipping agent' get it to me so I've asked them if a friend can pick it up... Hardly makes the tax free thing worthwhile!?!

H Samuels are also stocking it, I've emailed them as well...

  • Ray Mears wears a black Rolex Submariner date and has done for years.

Edit: The rumour based on an interview where he mentions the switch is that his Citizen broke and somebody told him that Rolexes don't break. Lolz.

  • I can't afford a Sub, that's why I've got an Ocean Black!?! But I've loved that Citizen since I first laid eyes on it...

  • Perhaps it was Rolex that told him that. Although he says he bought it himself, which is probably a condition of getting a free Rolex.

  • It's a fantastic watch, I love them too. Was just taking the piss a little.

If I had a I choose between a sub and a Citizen for his line of work, I wouldn't have chosen the sub that's for sure.
