  • I've got three, have owned five in total.

I thought the mesh bracelet on the recent skindiver version was lower quality than before but other than that, I highly rate them.

Quality of finish is spot on for a tool watch. Customer services and spares are a doddle.

  • serious homage... WOW...

  • I guess in that photo its not.

I would love a Pepsi. Though i got this off fleabay for a good price. And yes, very good value! Im very impressed with the bracelet. Its solid and screws and not pin/collar. Quality of this compared to the Seiko is astronomic but cost me roughly the same.

  • 39mm checking in. Was a bit shocked when I opened the box initially as to how small it looked having owned the 42mm before. But I think it's the right size for me, especially having lost a stone in the last three months.

  • hate that word. its a copy.

  • Yeah, this.

  • Clone: a person or thing that duplicates, imitates, or closely resembles another in appearance, function, performance, or style.

  • So what are we saying here? That the Helson is a copy of the Longines which is a copy of the Droz?

  • ^^ In a world where a watch is a timepeice what else do you expect.

@Stonehedge - the Helson is a straight copy that just avoids copyright infringement. IMHO there are very few watches I'd call a "homage". Things like the Seiko FF mods are.

Patek's homage to the Zenith's pilot is borderline ;)

    @spunk_nautical looks good to me.

  • I completely agree with you. Just have difficulty not considering the Longines a copy too.

  • It's close...and a bit too close for a brand like Longines, but not quite as bad as the Helson vs. Longines.

  • Still available.......

  • I think if Helson survives another 50+ years and releases a re-make of their Longines copy then that would be a homage.

The original Longines may have been a copy (although it's not identical like the Helson is) but 50 years down the line the new version I'd say is a homage to their own version.

All a bit subjective but the Helson just looks like a direct copy

  • Some people argue that it isn't a copy if you don't try to pass it off as the original. I.e a copy is something that even copies the logo and a homage is one that is clearly, upon first inspection, made by a different manufacturer and doesn't attempt to pretend to be the original.

  • its a homage because it says Steinhart. Its not a Rolex. A copy is a fake, its says rolex, looks like a rolex but isnt a rolex. I would understand your concerns if it said rolex, but it doesnt.

  • what do you call this? a homage to the range rover?

  • I'd call it a LandWind X7.

  • If it had a Range Rover badge, it'd be a fake Range Rover.

  • Well ASFAIK it's not strictly a copy of a droz, EPSA didn't make watches, just the cases and the outer dial, the unique part is the movement, inner dial and hands. Some brands changed the inner dial too but Longines specifically only made the top arrow hollow, hardly a significant change.

I maybe prefer the Helson as it doesn't have the date and the 'cock' hour hand is a little less obvious, and it doesn't have the script 'AUTOMATIC' type.

all the other brands who bought the patented EPSA case...

    Alpina
    Baylor
    Benrus
    Blancpain
    Bucherer
    Bulova
    Clarna
    Consul
    Cupillard Rieme
    Delvina
    Droz
    Duval
    Duward
    Edox
    Enicar
    Exona
    Felca
    Fortis
    Girard-Perregaux
    Glycine
    Hamilton
    Invicta
    IWC
    Jaeger-LeCoultre
    Le Cheminant
    Lip
    Longines
    Lusina
    Milber
    Nivada Grenchen
    Olma
    Onsa
    Orsa
    Precimax
    Renis
    Rona
    Solix
    Solvil Titus
    Suter
    Talis
    Technos
    Tissot
    Universal Geneve
    Unver
    Wittnauer Geneve
    Zenith
    ZentRa

As for 42mm cased ones like these i like the Bulova one too with the very retro triangle markers

(you can see in the selection above it's the Enicar and Universal who have made the most effort to be different for the outer bezel)

  • But the Helson is clearly a Longines copy tho

  • ok now i want one from any of those brands. bulova looking great. this fixes the only issue i had with the longines, the hour hand.

  • google Super Compressor

  • yes - definitely seen that and created theirs but no date, no attempt to copy the logo? I'd say they've improved it a little bit!
Alpina version is a bit shite

I also think Whitnauer predates the Longines and check out the Automatic type....
