Totally would. Seems a lot of money for a watch that is guaranteed to break on my wrist - nothing survives long.

When was the last time that somebody posted a negative review about a watch on wornandwound or hodinkee?

hodinkee's stock response is that they are watch enthusiasts, therefore they don't bother writing about shit watches. They then usually link to this one article written by a guy that escapes me right now.

But they do at least say stuff in the vein of "it would have been nice to see", or "it's a shame that..."... even if its immediately followed by a qualifier for why it's still amazing.

Pretty sure one of the main guys used to be in advertising.

Makes me wonder if there would be demand for a genuinely critical watch review site. Then again, the manufacturers would never send you their watches for review.

Yes. But you've highlighted the fatal flaw. I guess you could buy 2nd hand ones and sell them after. It would exclude new releases though.

I guess it was one of the things that was nice about the watch snob. Having someone rip into $2-5k watches with only a logo difference from a $500 one. Although there was a lot of covert JLC and Nomos marketing in there.

at least its open for comments. they help balance the articles a bit.

I was also going to say the comments section acts as a moderation. See the dual time chrono Nautilus. Although the article was quiet on the fact that the chrono function ruined what could have been a brilliant watch, the comments section filled in the blanks.
