  • Tried to hire a car for while I'm in Spain, hire place wouldn't do it as I've only had my license for eight months...

The cheek of it, I'm practically Ayrton Senna... In an auto...

  • Just seen a new Defender in the wild

  • And?

You can not just make that statement and walk away from this thread. We need your opinion so we can either agree with you or berate you for disagree with our (my) opinion.

  • It had its camo on but it looks compact and a bit like a rounded-off Discovery 3/4. I’m kinda into it, if they make it drive nicely and offer it in utilitarian spec it might just be the SVU it’s ok to own.

  • I've noticed that all of my neighbours with Defenders clamp and crook lock their cars every night. Hopefully the new one is less easy to pinch.

  • Fuck, what a palaver...

  • I'm a let u finish but...

It will tire so quickly imo.

Infact it already looks old. Whereas the old shape has reached timeless aesthetic.

    Imo

  • Having to triple lock a car to avoid it being nicked would probably put it firmly on the "do not buy" list.

  • Infact it already looks old. Whereas the old shape has reached timeless aesthetic.

Strongly agree. Same statement can be applied to many, many cars.

  • yup. and a 3rd party service tracker somewhere in the bodywork.

they're the most nicked car in the country by all accounts, a lot of that is probably down to the rudimentary security they roll(ed) off the production line with. that and the fact they're fucking awesome and everyone should own one.

  • Just a guess, but the modular nature of the design probably means its easier to flip parts.

  • I chatted to a policeman at a bike training course a while back, and he claimed that the bulk of stolen bikes were stripped and sold as parts. I wondered if, like with a bicycle, the total value of a motorbike's parts are more than its value complete.

In which case that would be a double win.

That said bikes tend to suffer more damage than cars. But then again Defenders probably require a constant supply of parts to keep them running. So maybe it balances out.

  • Defenders probably require a constant supply of parts to keep them running.

they really don't, which is probably why they're so sought after.

  • You can disassemble a Defender pretty thoroughly though, so I imagine if you have a quiet barn and an eBay account plus a socket set you can generate quite a bit of cash.

  • Looks at quiet barns in SE London.

  • not if all the bolts have rusted onto the chassis

    #modernproblemsrequiremodernsolutions

  • Og Defender is a thieves paradise,

I had an overland prepped 130 stolen from my drive years ago,
The next defender I owned had a pedal box lock, steering wheel lock, alarm, immobiliser, hidden kill-switch and lastly a ship chain concreted into the drive that wrapped and locked around the axle,
Sure, it wasn't stolen but was a massive pain in the arse to take all the locks off to nip to the shop,

A good friend of mine had his 110 stripped on the drive, they took the doors, roof, bonnet, rear door, seats and wheels,

I'd certainly never own another one, they were the coolest car on the road right up to the point where twats started buying them as status symbols,
And fuck all the "one life...live it" crew, what bunch of patronising, moronic bullshit.

  • My first Landy, or "The Ganja Bus" as she was affectionately known, constantly stunk of weed for some reason, this thing went everywhere, and was never locked as the locks didn't work, I'd abandon it for weeks at a time,
Once rescued 6 prostitutes in it in the Sheffield floods, was offered a blow-job, politely declined...

  • The parts being sold on in the UK not sold off else where. Easy trade as how can you identify parts, such as a swing arm, wheels fairings coming from a specific bike. The purchasers all are about cheap and not where the parts came from.

That is getting more common for landies but also for cars too, having the front ends stripped. Amazed at the speed and silence that the theft is done.

  • I quite like defenders. Might get one. I mean, I've only got one life, might as well live it to the full. A defender will show I'm serious about that

  • Got to have the snorkel kit then and camel trophy stickers, spray effect mud paint work.
