The reservoir contents was very low but clean. I took a v bright bike light and could see a load of it pooled in the undertray and most of the under side was dripping with the stuff. It had also sprayed on the inboard discs. Probably something simple but along with the really sluggish feel I left it to someone who knows what they’re doing

Need to look at the filters and feel the bottom for crap. Lots of new fluid usually means the leak has been going on for a while. :)
How long had the car been sitting for?
How rusty was the body? Did you take the rear wings off?

This reminds me I must go to the Bonnington Café when I'm in town, haven't been since the 80s...
My dad reckons a bloke he knows will rent me an automatic to drive around in for only €20 per day... I'll believe it when I see it but it's an interesting development all the same...

Friend bought a 4x4 one that had had the original engine diesel engine replaced by one out of a passat and with the original gearbox meant the engine was over reving and that killed the engine. It is also needing quite a bit or rusty metal to be cut out and replaced.

Car has an amazing history fully documented. No rust I could see , took off the rear wings and totally solid. It’s bern sitting with a start up or two around 3 months

If it's not rusty, buy it. Did you take the dizzy cap off and they do suffer from poor repro caps, dizzy arm and points.

Is it this one?
Edit: because tbh if Mini-hammer wasn't about to arrive, I'd have been tempted.

What would be the theory behind having two 996? Quite curious.
-
• #48961
That 996 has my spare radio in it.

Current cab for messing about with power increases/etc, that one just as a pure driver ‘control’.

There is something quite pleasing about them both being the same colour.

My central locking has gone down long ago. Now when im in the car with one door locked and the other not its like a servo is coming on by the sound of it. Its like the car realizes the central locking is not working and keep sending the signal but nothing happends apart from the sound that stops as soon as i lock or unlock a door so both are locked or unlocked. Sound is back on again as soon as i lock one side until i lock the other.
Anyone got a plausible cause? I havent investigated much at all yet other than trying differnt locking patterns with key or from inside to no effect..
Still love this piece of metal as much as my bikes dare i say it. As a sportscar its pretty poor one must say. As a quick classic tourer its pretty brilliant.

Microswitch not working so the car doesn't know the door is open or shut?
-
• #48970
Hmm possibly. If I press the micro switch in and out i get the same sound as when central locking fails. Hmm and since it does not know if open or closed a safety feature to not actuate the central locking as not to slam a locked door?

Sounds like one of the locking motors is not in the correct open/close position so the central locking relay is not completing the circuit correctly.
Check central locking relay, check the connectioins to the central locking relay under the holder. Check the locking mech on the doors and the boot aren't stiff and moving freely. The boot has the least bits of trim. Then check that the motors are cycling open and closed correctly.
Check the wiring to the electrical motors for continuity, with a pin in the wiring, where the doors/boot open and close. Wiggle the wiring to ceck for a brake.
