Found a cheap A2 diesel that has been clocked from 180 to 125. It is on the mot checker.
Even swapped the alloys for a3 alloy/steel wheels.

If thats the one on Gumtree don't bother looking. I went the other day, Its now got 190k on the clock but its in Limp mode with a massive gash in one of the intercooler pipes and a load of oil leaking out of said gash which suggests the turbo might be toast. I made him what I think is a decent offer above scrap value as I want the towbar and some parts off it but the guy is a tool. Still has it listed as great runner.

Not that one, but did look at that one and did an MOT history check. Looks like it will need discs and wheel bearing at the next MOT, and cv boots.

Charge air coolers are prone to blowing the bottom seal out. They are just pressed plastic. A long afternoon job to change. Everyone i've seen shows oil blowing out. Rarely turbo.

How hard is a gearbox swap, or why would 3rd gear stop engaging?
Might be going to Uxbriddge to look at one tomorrow.
-
• #49014
Of the gears, third is the most likeliest to go. Always worth doing a cable adjust, and the turret inside the car gets filled with debris as the boot fall to bits, worth a clear out.
Mine is a touch notchy now, but eased in works Ok. Now on 170k miles, so not overly concerned. Some of the bluemotion 6 speed boxes fit with little work. A gearbox is as simple or hard depending on POV as any other small VAG front wheel drive.
Because the body will last forever with no additional treatment or care required, every other part is seen as a consumable. -

Anywhere in East London reliably able to sort suspension bush(es) without a booking on Monday?
Something went clunk, and subsequently rattly and knocky, while driving. Pulled into a nearby KwikFit to confirm or deny my suspicions.
Hilariously, despite the location and nature of the noise, it sounded to them like a gearbox problem - specifically a lack of oil.

I looked up the reg of the GT40, turns out it's not an original but one of these https://www.capeadvancedvehicles.com . Have to say it looked very very nice for a replica.

• #49019
there were only 100 or so real gt40s built - you wouldn't see many at all outside the track or at a show.

My reverse lights and one of my break lights are gone. Dont know when just a friend noticed this weekend.
How much would you expect to pay for diagnosis/repair? I dont want to do it myself
-
• #49021
This could be numerous things. A good autospark should be able to diagnose the problem. Might just be bulbs - maybe try changing them yourself before seeking an expert?
-
• #49022
Real or not, will always be one of the most beautiful cars ever built.
-
• #49023
Oil circuit design, vacuum, seals and sumps have been in my thoughts over the weekend.
Anyone know what sort of vacuum an engine will cope with before seals start being sucked out of place?

As is this. Again, not real but lovely all the same
