Jeez, sorry I was joking. Don't listen to Slither. Any of their albums earlier than that though are good in a 'vegan sxe metalic hardcore' kind of way. I could never take them seriously maybe because they took themselves too seriously. Still, if you were at a bay area Earth Crisis show in the late 90s you would probably find me near the front singing Firestorm.
street by street block by block
taking it all back
the youth immersed in poison
turn the tide counter attack
violence against violence
let the roundups begin
a firestorm to purify the bane that society drowns in
no mercy, no exceptions
a declaration of total war
the innocent's defense
the reason it's waged foretc.

Earth Crisis are great but not even close to my favourite vegan straight edge hardcore band. Now Congress, thats an xvx band everyone needs to listen to!
Also nobody should listen to Slither ever. -

Oh, also regarding sXe songs that encouraged shitheaddedness, do any of you oldos remember this?
Slapshot - Chant - YouTube
I still listen to Slapshot sometimes. I think their cover of Bigmouth Strikes Again is the only cover of a smiths song by a hardcore or punk band that I have ever liked at all. That album, 16 Valve Hate, still holds up like a bunch of stuff I listened to in that era doesn't.

Fucking love slapshot! Great to watch live too. I always took their lyrics with a fairly large pinch of salt, sadly many people took them at face value.

"When Youth of Today would play in Boston and Slapshot would put meat products on our van..."

^^Yes!!!! Absolutely killer album.
So much stuff is rushing back to my memory! Kindred, Reveal, Culture, Driven, Arkangel, Spirit of Youth, Birthright, Poison The Well first EP... fuck. I remember getting all this stuff from paper distro lists as an excited teenager.

^All some of my favourite bands, especially the Belgian/h8000 stuff like Arkangel, Liar and Congress. Some of those labels are still going strong though like Goodlife (although they mostly just release beatdown stuff these days).

This stuff probably never made it out to these not-west-coast-USA lands, but in the late 90s Redemption 87 were god damned great. That first album meant a lot to me. If you find it, you should buy it. Their intense, violent, live shows were among the best I have been to.

I own that Redemption 87 album. I might be wrong but didn't some members go on to form The Nerve Agents? Never got into those guys but a few mates rated them.
-
• #495
Sounds kind of similar to the first nerve agents album so that seems pretty plausible.
-

yep Eric O. (singer) went on to form The Nerve Agents. Members from them (but not Eric O.) went on to The Distillers, Darker My Love and others.
Jade (guitar from after that album) went on to AFI.
And that was the bay area music scene (at least back then) 1000 bands, 10 people.

Some great bands mentioned on this page. It is entirely possible that I have met some of you over the past 17 years of going to hc gigs. I still try and get to as many as possible but as with many things, life often gets in the way.

They don't come to my town, the fucks. I am not sure I can justify the hundred bucks to go to Hamburg to see them. Should be rad though.
