Which Saddle?

  • Finally got a Romin. Hoping it's as good as everyone says it is... Interestingly they're cheaper over here than in the US. £100 vs $200.

It is. So comfortable and no gentleman's numbness to speak of whatsoever.

  • Does anyone want to try the Regale UP. I'm done with it. Need a cut-out for my dangly bits. This one in black.

It's had exactly 1250km of use.
They cost £90 new so happy to get back half of that at £45. Collection from Kings X

  • My Fizik Kurve has become progressively more uncomfortable. At first I thought it might be the pad in my new Howies bibs but on further investigation the saddle has cracked lengthways :(

  • Time for a Regal-e?

My kurve has started to show signs of use after about 2500+ miles. Nothing drastic though; some scuffing on rails etc. To be fair I bought it used.

  • Does anyone know a cheap saddle that would fit someone with very small sit bone distance? My sitbones are 100mm apart and I am looking for something cheap for my beater...

Fixed gear beach cruiser, always has sprung saddles on it, amazing comfort. No relevance to being fixed or single, to me anyway.

  • +1 San Marco SKN
picked up one off here. they stopped making it a couple years ago i think, possibly because the tail end ends up uneven; none of the channel saddles released now are without a bridge.

i had two issues the saddle seems to be coping well with.

    1. numbness. as well as a romin.
    2. a chafe spot a bit ahead of my left sit bone, right side fine. i imagine i've a hip inbalance as my legs are the same length, yet i have dodgy right knee and my left leg has more muscle. complete guess work.

i will say, if you have found you chafe on one side more than the other, the skn may be worth a go x

  • Which is likely to be more durable- fizik arione, or kurve snake?

  • arione is the saddle of gods

  • I have heard multiple reports of the kurves snapping, but some swear by them.
I would go for the standard arione

  • james you should know this
if youre sitting right, with a flat back tuck,
you dont need no curve brother
    you need arione
    what was the question?
    oh durability?
    dunno

  • The Kurve Snake is the same shape as the arione.

  • except for the curve....

  • I have used ariones, but the cover tends to wear at the edges. I just got the Kurve snake and it is possibly more comfy than the arione, and it has a plastic edge so maybe less likely to wear than the ordinary arione.

  • well, you will lean your bike against a wall, if you only ever rode it and never stopped anywhere it wouldnt happen

  • i bet you eat food as well

  • on paper/by looking at the design and materials, Arione might last longer than kurve although as I said I am at 2500+ miles mark with one of my Kurve snake saddles with slight signs of usage.

Are you using soft or hard setting?

  • Popped into my LBS last week who are a specialized dealer and got measured. I should be riding a 143 so grabbed a Toupe. Went for a 2 hour ride and although width seemed good was still uncomfortable. Has very little padding so I think thats why, I've got a 30 day return on it so can anyone recommend anything about the same size with a good amount of padding?

Romin looks to be just as thin or am I wrong?

  • stick with it as far into the 30 as you can.
the toupe/ romin/ etc are different shapes. another term refers to padding level: http://www.specialized.com/gb/gb/ftb/saddle-finder/

  • I didn't get on with the toupe at all, but the Romin is great. They're very different saddles.

  • Cheers for the heads up.. will take your advice and get as much saddle time as i can before returning.

  • Finally have found a saddle that is nearly perfect - so far. It's a Selle Italia SLS Kit Carbonio. Bought it because because I've wanted to try an SLR for a while and the SLS is meant to be same shape base, just budget oriented (paid £36).
It has decent flex, nicely contoured around sit bones/thigh interface and a firm flat nose. Question though, now I want one on all my bikes. For the good one should I splash out for some version of a SLR - apart from weight ~80g is there any reason to buy the expensive version. If anyone has direct comparison experience it would be great to hear. Not the flow versions though - loads of that chat on other internets.

    This is the saddle:
