I used an SLR xp a couple of years ago which I never noticed anything bad about, then switched to Turbos which have been fine for a couple of years but oddly recently been a bit uncomfortable on them on the start of rides and on the turbo trainer. Have bought an SL (basically cheaper SLR) from ribble for £35 to see if I go back to not noticing the saddle.

For me, some saddles need a cutout and some don't. I find a plain old Flite to be excellent without a cutout, it's the flatter saddles (flat from from to back, that is) that cause problems for me without a channel.
I'm currently trying a San Marco Aspide on the winter bike, as it looked to me to be a lot like a Romin but with a smoother shape, and a stiffer shell (both of which appealed to me). And it feels a lot like that, though it's quite narrow, and for the next ride I need to tilt it up a touch as I didn't get the angle quite right and I found myself sliding forward onto a section that was a bit too narrow to be comfortable. Promising though.

Have SLR with and without cut outs. No difference really.

^^ Once you sure the Smud feeling is not due to cognitive dissonance but for good please let me know.

Got a Romin on the fixed gear and it's great. It's the older stitched version.
Got a newer version (same width) for my road bike, fitted in and it feels completely different. Can't seem to get comfy on it. Did the design change apart from the finish?

^ not that I can tell.

^^ Have you got them set up the same? (I've been setting mine up, and the difference between horizontal and a few degrees forward or back is ridiculous)
I've just got a Romin evo. Had an 8 year old Toupe on my fixed before, and really liked it, but having put the Romin on to test it (wasn't riding my road bike at the time, which is what it is for), and its ace. So much so that I'm probably just going to order another one.
I have/had an Arione on my road bike and whilst I really like the shape, I just don't find it comfortable on longer rides, compared to the Toupe, which I put down to the cut-out. Fingers crossed that the Romin should sort that out

Well I obviously really wanted to like it. Given the cost, weight, and cool look. Having ridden around all last season on a Tune saddle (similar), knowing I dont get on with padding, and having a taste for a more traditional curve shape, I can move around on. It seemed like a decent enough bet.
I have a few 60min stints on it, and seems great so far. We all know that can change with longer rides, or simply over time (I think sometimes its the change that feels better, not the actual saddle).
But with some epic rides planned next year. I need to be honest with myself sooner rather than later. If I am simply defending my own purchase.

Doing my best to get 'em set up the same... Will break out a spirit level (or worst case the app on my phone). Seat tube angles are different on both bikes, making fore/aft difficult to get perfect and like you say any difference from spot on is weird. Worth it when I get it right, I hope...

I reckon I'll give a second hand romin a go. If anyone has one in 143mm for sale (ideally in black) let me know!

But seriously there is a wanted thread on hear already!

I'd definitely recommend the romin. I got one s/h off here and was previously offered a white one from someone in Leeds I think after putting up a wanted thread. Can pass their username on if you like? Was only a couple of weeks ago...

Where I could get new Specialized Romin any version in black and 143mm cheap in UK/EU can be those with ugly white or red rails as color is removable.
I absolutely fell in love with it and want one for my second bike. -

As in 'none of the Romin's that Evans are selling (in black) are what I would call cheap
Found the same switching from an Arione to full carbon SLR, 5-6hrs in the saddle and don't event notice it. It actually makes the Arione seem uncomfortable
