On road however I like 46 x 18 fixed, or 44 x 18 for loaded fixed touring.

I ran 34 x 18 on my freewheel twenty niner .
46:24
I find when I'm freewheeling, and carrying momentum up a hill. The slightly higher than standard SS gear allows me to start pedalling before I slow too much. Means gurning over the top. But thats what bar-ends are for.

Spinning = good
Knee popping = badI'd much rather have an overly spinny gear than something that made my Oscars hate me, and give me a john wayne gait.
This, I've started spinning more since I started riding gears (about a year ago) contracted a knee injury that is still giving me grief 7 months, one bike fit and lots of physio later. Great, it's very macho to ride a track gear on the road but you're not doing yourself any favors. Also low gear on mountain bikes, depends entirely where you ride I've ridden Afan, CyB and suchlike on 32 x 18 just make climbing easier

I was riding in Scotland, so pretty hilly...but still get on better with slightly higher gears for SS and fixed off road. :]

Les so far, paint stripping is a bitch! gonna leave it now and gradually clean it up as I go.
Got sram s300 chainset to go on, but no GXP tool. Bars need cutting down a bit and got some black ourys to complete the HHSB look.
Needs a different front tyre as well, got one I'm taking off another bike when I get round to it.

Thanks! I don't know what "windfall pun..." means, but all your points are quite right. Risers are on it because I drive it to school everyday (26km), and I like the comfort of a riserbar when I wear a backpack :). Also the frame is a bit to small, it is a 55 and i normally ride 57 orso. But the geometry is fine for me, it drives well. I don't know nothing of the frame. But it has nice lugs and cool paint!

Looks good, but I still think you should extend the headtube and add a second toptube.
I ran 34 x 18 on my freewheel twenty niner and 34 x 16 on my fixed twenty niner.
It's been a long time since i rode 26" off road, but I'm pretty sure that was 36 x 16 freewheel.
