Just ordered an inverse shim there from Hubjob, but in the meantime, if I can get it on, how long would you say it'll last? I'll probably have to order a 26mm stem soon enough, will it last a few months like this?

A giraffe with Einstein hair. That is what you need for an avatar.

It should be fine although I'm not sure of the quality of the stem that comes with the Langster Steel. I've done it before but only with high quality stems so assume they are stronger or whatever.
I'd say order the correct size stem ASAP.

No prize for guessing which one is max;

Will do,
/runs off to start 'which stem' thread.
If/when it breaks is it going to be the stem or the bars that'll crack? I'm not too pushed about the stem, but I don't want to wreck my new bars...

it's a good time to decided whether you need a longer stem or shorter one (unless you feel the current length is spot on) too.

Yep. What's the hierarchy of stem quality? Like the look of this, but it's about €60 or so...Anything a bit cheaper that's good quality?

Get a stem from Velosolo. They are an pleasure to deal with and have a wide range in stock.

It would be the stem that goes... around the clamp area. I've never seen it happen but it makes sense for that to be the weak spot if stretched open by oversized bars.

That is a beautiful stem. I am actually saving up for one at the moment. Do it.
Although I'm not sure if they do them in 26.0? I may be wrong.
As Scoble said, use this as an opportunity to see whether you need a longer or shorter stem.

They have them in both on Hubjob, and in different lengths. Might save up for that so...http://www.hubjub.co.uk/nitto/nitto.htm
About half an inch away from getting the bars into place...Is there any kind of lube I can use?
-
• #24338
You don't want to use any kind of lube at all in the bar/stem interface, as I said above.
Try using a screwdriver or something to lever the clamp apart (fully loosen bolt) and insert bars as you prise it open.
If this doesn't work then don't force it any further.

I've noticed HubJub sell 25.4 proper bullhorns in the form of Soma's Urban Pursuit Bar
I'm planning on getting those when they have them in stock. Perhaps sell your Nittos on here and wait for them? I know they're not a full on pursuit bar but they are nice.

try placing a 2p or 1p coin in the gap between the clamp and reverse screwing the bolt in - this should prise open the gap a bit.

Yep, that's what I've been doing. Suppose it'll just take a while to shimmy it in. Pretty nice stem here on velospace, a straight equivalent to the Pearl.

Quill height on Dynamics are huge. Not a problem if you have long headtube, but it is if you have a short headtube.

Quick question... Dura Ace headset or Tange Levin Alloy NJS?

Chris King?

Out of the two - DA.

Cheers. Can't really justify 2x the price of a DA atm with a Chris King.

@arantrek ... Yeah sorry, just being an ass.
btw, If you find a silver Elite stem in 80mm, let me know...

Got them on, chisel wrapped in a J-Cloth did the trick easily. Once I did that it slid in nicely, so it should be OK, at least until I can afford a new stem. I also managed to find the screw I dropped on the ground, after 10 minutes searching for it, so it was a double success. Am I OK to use the same bartape I took off the drops? It wasn't adhesive, and I've only had the bike about 2 weeks...

The CKs are sweet though. I think I may re-grease the one I've got and keep saving!
Just spoke with the shop. They've got nothing unfortunately. I'll keep my eyes peeled though.

But you only rode it to the pub and back?
I used to have an older Kashimax Aero on my Tallbike, I was REALLY painful on rides longer than a few miles.
Well, I had a daily commute of around 15miles only, back then. It was alright for that.
But I'll have to agree that more than that would probably mean trouble.Morning,
Finished the Mercier last week,
LoicLoic, amazing build... really really nice.
I would go with a 3ttt saddle, they really suit that type of classic frame.
Still, it looks the shizzle!3Rensho Katana, likely built by Makino
Wow!
Got an old Raleigh which I plan to make into a fixed cruiser over the next few weeks.
Will keep nice moustache bars and the vintage cranks, get rid of the back brake and have both levers linked up to front break in Y shape. Also probably get a vintage saddle, old school light walled tyres and polish the shit out the chrome steel wheels.
