Quick question... Dura Ace headset or Tange Levin Alloy NJS?
I've had the original Tange Levin Alloy in my Hirame Osaka Pro for nearly 25 years (in fact it was installed in July 1982 but I didn't get it until 1986, NOS)

Nice! Ditch the wheel reflectors though, they just fall off and crack anyway...

Nice Langster (don't think I've ever said that before!). What rims are they? Would look even better (for me) with some low profile rims for the classic look

Oh yeah and slack chain

Looks like someone beat me to it, but here's the new bike - birthday present from the wife.
3Rensho Katana, likely built by Makino - not sure of the year yet.
Parts were just swapped from the Stratton. Still experimenting with the saddle.
A panto'd stem is on the way but some of you will be dissapointed that it's also black.
Below is the vintage look I was going for.
DMC - you da man - the drilled black chain ring is the sweetness - Selle San Marco Concur in red is a lovely saddle as is the bio turbo in red - oh and do you want to swop wives ?

Is it me or Tange isn't as smooth. Feels bit* "gritty"*

They're the stock rims actually, they're pretty deep as it is. I'm saving up for some deep profiles, I was thinking maybe white Velocities/HPlusSons and red Vittoria tyres, think that'd suit the bike.

Meant to get round to doing that alright.

See above ;)

New project
My housemate found the frame in a skip with the stem and cranks attached. Just an old Raleigh. I was suprised to find a mint UN53 bb in there. Other housemate gave me the headset and another mate gave me the wheels just for servicing his bike and fitting his new wheels and chain. Only problem now is I got a 52t chainring and a 16t rear sprocket. Might have to change something there. Anyone got a rear sprocket or a crank they wanna swap?

Really deep profiles can look a bit strange on a lugged steel frame (I know this as I've done it) but its your bike! However I wouldn't go for red tyres, especially with white rims. Red is a very strong colour and adding more would knock out the balance of the build (which is nice at the moment).
Black tyres FTW

HTFU, it's only 86"

I amn't sure at the moment alright, haven't decided. There's a very similar bike on velospace that was built up from just the frameset, with shallow chrome rims and black tyres. I definitely think deep section rims would look better, but I might stick with the silver alright...

Is that a tub of play doh?

• #24369
looks more like pasta sauce balanced atop a can of tuna.
Not sure if the tuna's in springwater or sunflower oil though. Could even be brine...

brine? never.

Looks like a little tub of screws/nails to me. Definitely not brine. Not with that crankset.

@ electrogrimey: ditch that rear break (only if your running fixed) before you scuff up the breaking surface and make that lovely chrome rim dirty forever.
EDIT: tighten that chain too

sorted: stem, bars, brake, front wheel, saddle, seatpost, crankset.
need: rear wheel, pedals, chain, clips and straps

I only flipped the hub last week, but I'm going to get rid of it once I'm fully used to it, which I can probably do in a few days. The brake also makes the top tube look ugly, so I was going to anyway.
Slack chain is a result of a hasty wheel flipping job, was going to tighten it before I took it out next anyway.

Seems odd that the frame builder chose to join the top tube to the middle of the head tube, it's not like he didn't have a pretty free run at it, what with it being both curved and sloped.
gripnut is really really well done and in the even you want to go threadless you simply buy the top cap and race for like 35 bucks.
thought.
