  • thats a very nice looking bike!

  • thats a very nice looking bike!

The possibility of brine takes away from it though.

  • sorted: stem, bars, brake, front wheel, saddle, seatpost, crankset.
need: rear wheel, pedals, chain, clips and straps
    yay :)

If you need free temporary pedals let me know. And buy a new seatpost clamp (like this one, but the right size to suit the diameter of the tube).

  • HTFU, it's only 86"

For a bike that's going to be doing mostly short trips to the shops, pub, skatepark etc with multiple traffic lights in beween?

ive ordered some mks gr-9 and a kmc kool :)

  • Morning,

Finished the Mercier last week, the decals arrived on thursday, and I tried to take some "nice" pictures yesterday in the sun... I am very happy with it!

    Voila...

Just to put it into context, the bike looked like this when I got it in France this Christmas (picture from the french website I bought is from) bike is most definitely a Mercier, old transfers were present under this poor paint job (even the headset and BB cups had been painted!):

And the idea was to make it (kind of) look as per Raymond Poulidor's track bike:

    Loic

whohoo, nice one loic. i'd say you met the one in the picture almost spot on. lovely. i see now, since you have a proper racer, you bling and hipsterize the 80's time machine ;) haha

  • :-)

  • Take a picture with another saddle, so I can move it to the porn section

You never know when you're going to need it. I was enjoying a leisurely ride back from the garage this morning when some bloke went past me on a mountain bike, and me with only 45/18 on.

  • that steel langster looks pretty good. if they did them in other colors and were alot cheaper id consider one. how is the quality of the chrome?

as far as im concerned they are still too expensive, i can buy a much nicer older frame. but for a new frame they seem pretty decent.

  • ... I'm saving up for some deep profiles, I was thinking maybe white Velocities/HPlusSons and red Vittoria tyres...

    don't

    think that'd suit the bike.

    it won't.

  • thats a very nice looking bike!

I thought I was going to covet the steel langster, but I don't think the chrome goes well with the lumpy welding. You need lugs or nice smooth fillets to look right with the chrome stays and forks, something elegant. This just looks like when someone wears jeans and brogues. Both have their place, but never together, it's just wrong.

You could just get one and re-paint it. Can't say much for the quality so far, I've only had it about 2 weeks. Rides really nicely, I can feel a lot more of the road than I could on my last racer, but that was aluminium with carbon forks, which is always going to be different to a steel frame w/chrome forks.

    don't
    it won't.

I have since reconsidered, see above posts. Was only thinking out loud.

Nicest OTP frame going IMO. Much prefer it to the aluminium think tubes of normal Langsters/Bowery's etc.

  • I reckon some black low profile rims would look good on that langster steel, black open pros maybe.
I would say stick to black or silver rims personally.

By the way that 3RENSHO is an absolute beauty, nice one DMC. You must have the best wife ever!

Don't really like the look of black and chrome, I like black and white or stealth, but not black and chrome. Think I might go for deep silver rims, that won't be for a while though. First on the list are a new stem, new pedals & clips, and new tyres.

  • I would go with a 3ttt saddle, they really suit that type of classic frame.

I think I cannot afford it!!!!

Is that a joke or a mistake?

    Loic

PS - Yes I agree with you, it would look real good!

  • Yah, but it comes with a free lock!

  • Seems odd that the frame builder chose to join the top tube to the middle of the head tube, it's not like he didn't have a pretty free run at it, what with it being both curved and sloped.

Seems odd that the frame builder chose to name themselves after a well known homeware store. Amirite??

  • Just ordered an inverse shim there from Hubjob, but in the meantime, if I can get it on, how long would you say it'll last? I'll probably have to order a 26mm stem soon enough, will it last a few months like this?

I didn't realise hubjub were capable of breaking the laws of physics.

If I were you I'd send Will another email apologising for your gullibility before it fries his brain.

Ehh just re-read that and it is a bit harsh... I'm sorry! The forum has played you for a fool, because they're bastards. It wound me up because I end up receiving PMs from people like you, who've been mislead into believing that inverse shims not only exist, but are readily available from distributors such as hubjub, wiggle, and er... me. Sit down and think about it for a second. How can a piece of metal DECREASE the size of handlebars?

Of course you could have been joking, in which case I now look like some kind of psychopath.

I'm glad you've bought a langster steel - for £499 you get a very handsome machine.

well, after all Will is god, you know

B is most definitely the answer.

  • Quick question.... For Sugino 75 cranks, can I run a Dura ace road bottom bracket? and what length would it need to be? 109mm?

I have a Phil Wood rear hub and the transmission database tells me 109mm work with an EAI sprocket.

  • Quick question.... For Sugino 75 cranks, can I run a Dura ace road bottom bracket? and what length would it need to be? 103mm?

I have a Phil Wood rear hub.

You might as well ask for a complete recital of Graham's number.

Sugino 75's are ISO taper. dura ace bb will be JIS. The taper is only very slightly different. You can run ISO cranks on JIS tapers, and vice versa.

JIS BB spindles are slightly fatter than ISO spindles. So, if you were to fit 2 sets of identical ISO cranks, one on an ISO spindle and one on a JIS spindle, the cranks on the JIS spindle would sit a few mm further out from the BB shell.

From memory, sugino 75s run on a 110 ISO spindle (or is it 109?) to get 42mm chainline. Therefore a 107mm JIS BB might put you in the ball park.

However, as Sheldon brown pointed out (I think), a lot of companies really don't precision engineer the tapers in their cranks (even the expensive ones!), and he found massive discrepancies via the use of digital callipers with different pairs of seemingly identical cranks.

More people still vehemently oppose the use of JIS on ISO and vice versa. I have a set of 75s that have been used on JIS BBs for seemingly eternity (I bought them 2nd hand), and they seem to run ok. using a 107mm bb seems to be the easiest and cheapest option for getting an optimal chainline with 75s, unless you want to splash out on the phil BB with adjustable cups, or a centaur bb (if you can find one! Now that centaur cranks use the ultra torque system, i'd guess that square taper centaur bbs are going to be discontinued soon, if they haven't been already).

    Hope this helps.

  • hi asm do you have many wheels or cranks in stock now? prefrebly black ones!!
i sent you a pt but maybe it did not work
