I reckon I need some rigid forks instead of the suspension and some narrower tyres to do this ride. Preferably a longer seatpost too. Hmmm.

Saturday is good for me too.
What size tyre are you thinking. I was thinking of swapping those halos out too. I've got some tractor tread tyres in the cupboard but hey are 2" is that too wide? I know nothing about mbt tyres.

I have some rigid forks if you want to borrow Em. on-one 420mm axle-crown. can collect westies?
Tommy - with mud you either go wide and low pressure, or skinny and slightly higher. None of us has a choice so don't worry.
I'm in - woooooo! -

Cool ta prv that was what I thought but wondered if some new wonder tyre had come along since I was up with waht was going down in the world of mud.
-
• #206
in the mud narrow 2.0's are ideal i don't know anybody who goes up a size in the mud.
a lot of people stick with their high rollers all year round. for out and out mud the schwalbe black shark muds, bonty mud-x and more of an all rounder (but good in mud) bonty jones acx.
i wouldn't fit anything over 2.35 imho -

I've got Continental Vertical Pro's, reckon I'll survive?!
-
• #208
Everyone will be fine with whatever they've got - I certainly wouldn't stress too much about it. I've got some bonty 2.2 x 29er tyres which I'll be using. Object - why rigid? Suspension forks will be fine unless they're some ridiculous 140mm super freeride jobbies.
-
• #209
Phew, 110mm travel here.
-
• #210
I just prefer rigid for XC riding, To be honest if I buy some rigid forks I'll offload the suspension permanently to someone else.
The only reason I asked about tyres is because I'm running 2.35 at the front and I think it'll be too hefty/tiring for any length of decent ride. I've got a narrower 2.1 that I'd happily run instead.

.... 140 mm is too much for Momentum...
..Dammit is ok because he only has 110 mm....
.. Object does not care as long as it's rigid, but would prefer a narrower girth ... -
• #212
Gah...would love to come, but can't this time out. Grrr.
Next time, next time...the mtb has been clean for far too long.

Tommy, you're a funny bitch.

i often have 5inches at both ends. or sometimes just 100mm of bounce up front if it's muddy

Last time I was down there I saw one guy on a full suspension nicolai which looked pretty awesome and one guy on a rigid cannondale from the 90s with cantis and toe straps. They both looked like they were having fun which is kinda the point! I've got a steel 29er with 100mm fork and I'm happy with that.

That's all I intend to do is have fun. My bike is a right bastard / hack job. You'll laugh when you see it.

Weather is looking acceptable, but it's not gonna be warm!http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/FREE/dayforecast.asp?zipcode=dorking&day=4 Is everyone still up for a MTFU ride in the cold?
-
• #219
I have small testicles so the fact that they may shrink in the cold is inconsequential to me.
What time train are you thinking?
-
• #220
bit wet in a day or two but should be dry on saturday. looking forward to it!

I salute you Tommy - a manly combination of hard won evolutionary adaptation to the cold and ruthless honesty!
There's a train at 10.03 from Clapham Junction that looks pretty good which leaves Waterloo at 9.54. Otherwise there's one that leaves Victoria at 10.03 and Clapham Junction at 10.09. What's best for people?
-
• #222
...meet 9:45 at clapham junction? jump on the first one we can..
is there a list?
1 - momentum
2 - tommy
3 - fatboyralph
4 - provenrad
Object? bring the steamroller..
Dammit? -
