just won 2 more new gatorskin tubs on eBay for £55.....

• #1228
Heh, I was going to bid on those but was in a meeting
-
• #1229
Wait, your tubs failed so you bought two more.. of the same?

Every tire can fail

I will give them the benefit, In the last 5 years this is only the 2nd time I have had a tire rip apart like this. First time was a Pasela Tourgaurd clincher (strangely about 30m further up the same road)

I increased my bid just before I went into my meeting....;-)

Not sure if I buy into the "lightning never strikes the same place twice" philosophy...

"Why are you late for this meeting?"
"I was bidding on these sick tires for my bike innit. They need glue and everything"
-

Already had these conversations, when the last lot got delivered (tub glue) the lady I sit next to questioned what it was all for.
I explained that the glue is to stick the tire to my rim and the inner tube is sewn inside...
she looked at me blankly,
she does not ask me about bikes anymore...

inane question of the day.
What size saddle bag can you cram a folded pre-glued tubular into?
I'm thinking:
Spare tubular,
Tiny pump,
Tiny multi tool,
tiny rain jacket,
pitstop,I was hoping a medium topeak wedge would do it. With a small fuel tank for 'all the musli bars', and my phone.
Sorry. I realise this is a pathetic question. But I dont have a unmounted tub to hand, or access to a few decent saddle bags.

The tub I have to hand, when bundled tightly (but not twisted) takes up the spaces of about 2-3 tennis balls.
-
• #1237
Doubt that's too useful but I'm bored.
-
• #1238
Depends on the tub to a large degree- a strict "get you home" 19c Tufo can be folded up to be significantly smaller than a 23c Gatorskin, for example.

Ha!
The bit that has me stumped is the pre-glued bit. I cant really fold it any why I want if its full of glue. Might get one of those stupidly small Tufos. Everything else I carry is of the 'ultra small so awsome to carry, but shite to actually use' catagory.

This is pre-glued:

Just tape it all together, stick in in a bag if you're precious and then tape it to the bike.
-
• #1244
Yeah that's why I do. Tesco sandwich bag keeps it clean and tape keeps it on
-
• #1245
Cheers folks.
Looks like I need a 1.0ltr bag.

I've had some "eh" from guys at work. Bar my manager he cycles quite seriously for a cycle club, so he knows what the score is. Though I don't think he uses tubs...

I've tried those application, it's pretty much crap.
There's a better one for Android that actually gave me a reasonable pressure to start with.
-
• #1248
I've ordered a bag big enough to carry a 'proper' tub. Not sure I suscribe to the carry a 160g 19mm tyre theory. I rather spend my pennys on more veloflex carbons.
-
• #1249
I've just dropped a pair of carbon clincher rims off to be built.
I feel dirty.

Cover yourself in tub cement for your sins
Looks as though I am getting plenty of practice....a handy tip
When getting the tire off I used a wooden spoon handle to roll under the tyre and peel it off the rim. No rim damage and the tyre can be re sewn (accept this one)
