  • You’ll never get the fucker off

Someone gave me a tip about this, for glue or tape: leave an inch opposite the valve unglued/untaped. Then you have somewhere easy to insert an implement/digit.

  • I bought a pair of wheels a couple of years ago from this guy, and they're magnificent. 49mm rims weighing 330g, with extremely impressive braking on the carbon brake track, complete wheelset weighing 1080g. CX-Rays laced to some impressively minimalist forged straight-pull hubs, with the nicest flange spacing I've ever seen. Extremely competitive price given the spec.

I'm surprised Caden hasn't 'blown up' by now, given the bang for buck .

Wish I'd caught that leave the wheels in the sun tip - had a hell of a time trying to get the backing off the tape; it kept tearing. Tyres haven't budged since though.

  • Excellent! Maybe a hairdryer would also deal with the glue.

If the glue softens with heat I suppose you shouldn't park your bike in the sun either. Or use the tape on alloy rims and do big descents. He only sells carbon rims, so I suppose he wouldn't consider that.

He is very open about his work..... getting the rims moulded and so on. I'd like to buy from him one day.

  • Ben swears the tape hangs on harder than glue. A bit of warmth might make it easier to peel the backing off, which obviously is not meant to stick very hard to the tape.

  • Found a nice pair of carbon tubs for sale and there wrapped in continental competition 22mm tubs.

Anybody used these for fair weather cycling? Or do you wreckin it would be puncture city?

  • Competition tubs will still be fairly resilient l. I rode conti sprinter tubs for regular cycling a few years back and they were trouble free

  • I never had any issues, although mostly had the Pro Ltd version (only difference is a latex inner tube). Obv a bit narrow compared to more modern sizings, so don't expect them to be super comfortable.
