  • I go 100 front 110 rear.
Thats what the website above said when I used it before.

  • With 25c tyres I tend to go 85 front 90 rear with gatorskins (because they are solid as f**k) and with my 23c bontrager tyres i tend to go 110 rear and 105 front

  • Chunky monkey!

  • Mine said 140-145

  • This whole discussion of inflation pressure is mislead. There is no "ideal" pressure, only suboptimal. Suboptimal on the low side is when there is a measureable loss in rolling resistance, increase in faults and/or diminished gains in comfort.. On the high side.. dimimished gains in rolling resistance, increase in faults, decreased comfort.. Rider weight is relevant BUT more relevant for a given tyre model than rider weight is the course and riding style.. With something like a 23cm Conti tubular 8 bar front and rear-- perhaps 1/2 bar more in front--- is a good starting point for riding on urban roads..

  • Due to a combination of wear, p_nct_r_s and valve stems that were just too short I've ended up with a 320 tpi Corsa Evo on the front and a Veloflex Record on the back.

85 front 100 rear today- felt good enough for ~50 miles of Kent lanes.

  • I might try lower then if you're at 85 front. Could do 80. Hmm.

  • Bear in mind you go a lot faster than me

  • Bear in mind you go a lot faster than me

    What difference would that make?

Maybe I'll just so some rolling resistance tests on the rollers and see.

  • Been running 110 front 120 rear.

Feels perfect (21mm front, 22mm rear).

But I think my position puts weight on my hands. So dont fancey going over 110 for the front.

    None, I was joking.

  • I would have thought higher speed meant more tyre skipping. Which would in turn push your 'rolling resistance vs traction' equation slightly towards lower PSI.

This is why I'm 10 PSI under the recommended amount for a bigger boned cyclist. I'm just so darn fast.

  • It will nearly always be a compromise ... If you're super fast on a technically demanding course, or a hairpin descend for instance, typically you want slightly lower tire pressure than on flat open road.

  • Interesting. I'm going to try lower. 90/95 I think.

    I think I'll notice a difference. Not!!

  • 1st day in on Gatorskin tubs....in the rain.

2 days of stretching helped no end, 2 man (1 man, 1 wife) job to get them on the rim initially, 1 man job when stretched and glued

initial impressions are good, no punctures so that’s a bonus.

Don't feel as quick as the Vittoria Corsa's previously running but, if I don't have to stand in the rain with a flat I don't care.

  • Would the durano t/ht be harder wearing than a sprinter?

  • Well that went well...stone 1 gator skin 0

  • So Conti tubs are as liable to their clinchers to catastrophic cuts then.

    Paging hippy.

  • 2,300 miles on my front Gator, looking a bit tired now though.

  • A bit more background..

So the tyres are about 1 week old. This was my 5th ride on it, pressure was about 100psi (on my joe blow dial..so about 120psi in reality).

Rolling up to some lights at -5mph, the front gives way with a loud bang. Chap in the car next to me almost spits his coffee over the dashboard and I look round to see what is going on.

Pull onto the pavement, and inspect my tire....huge hole as above. Have a look in the road and I have rolled over a stone that has shattered under my tire into hundreds of little sharp pieces of flint. Dust them out of the road and phone the wife.

15mins later she is delivering a new front wheel (lucky I caught her on the school run). Old one in the boot, new one on and off I go....kids pointing and laughing at me in the back.

On a lighter note I dropped some open pro ceramics (36h) and DA7800 into Harry Rowland on Saturday, I think that my tubs will kept for non-commuting days.

  • I noticed some sidewall damage on my Contis. No idea what pressure I run them at, I call it "when it becomes fecking hard to pump them with mini hand-pump" PSI.

I had a glass cut in the front, which I sowed up. Some other cuts appeared but didn't go through to tube.

Points for making driver nearly lose his coffee, shouldn't be drinking in car anyway :P

  • On the plus side, it looks like a decent glue job ;)
