I've stuffed myself full of pancakes in readiness. Stuffing my pannier with stuff I won't need as always. Got my FWC card this time. Roll on 0430.

Do more hilly rides should disabuse you of the panniers?

I'm probably just going to carry a bunch of food, same as normal. I have a saddle pack now so might use that for tubes and a bunch of zip-ties for the on-road frame repairs :)
-
• #3161
Zip-ties for frame repairs should work with an empty tango can.

Apart from crashing on the ice and riding with a bruised hip it was a gorgeous day with some scenic vistas to enjoy. Good to see such a big turnout and such a breath of experience, both veterans and complete noobs. Definitely fixed friendly and no hills to speak of. There was one guy on a recumbent and one on an elliptigo (I recognised him as I had built up his rear wheel).
Two down and ten to go for the RRtY. Next audax for me will be LOL unless I manage a DIY before then. Otherwise training. Feel surprisingly fresh today so think my tapering strategy is working and am on course for my first 300 in April.

My Garmin straps broke off when I crashed but luckily I had zip ties with me. Definitely a must have.

Kudos for ploughing on, I was expecting you to be a big dipper.
Three more rides to get you in to PBP. I still have space on The Dean if you want one.

You were looking really strong all day Arup, can tell you have been putting the training in!
Enjoyable day with loads of friendly faces, It ended early for me at 150k was suffering with bad cramp from after the first hill after lunch and then managed to lose my front wheel on some mud and wipe out, got to Wye still cramping and with now bashed up knees and elbows decided to pack and head to Ashford.
I had an upset stomach the day/night before so assume it was probably dehydration, but could be any number of things including fitness. Prior to this my longest ride since end of November was 50 miles!
I spoke to Hippy briefly at the control at 120k I imagine your 20 is in the bag rive.
LOL is my next booked going to get some serious miles in between now and then.

I started with a zip-tie around the head tube and packed extras for a roadside frame repair :)
Sorry to hear about your crash. I was taking it VERY easy at the sight of anything remotely ice looking.

Sorry I didn't recognise you straight away - it was one of those "I know your face but from where?" kind of moments. I know what you mean about the hill right after that control - how rude!
chinny reckon ;p
just in case you've never seen one before:
