  • ^ One disheartening thing about being near the back of the field on the BCM is seeing the fast riders coming back South (*) having done 120km+ more than you whilst you've still got the whole of Snowdonia to do.

I think that's what he meant with reference to your "use the TT bike and annoy the sandal wearers" comment.

    • Specifically the bit between Maentwrog and Beddgelert.
  • Righto. I think Wye is a big loop so this shouldn't be an issue. I don't see how riding at my own pace could be an issue for anyone - 30kph max right? No idea what the lanes are like so if the weather is looking sketchy all bets are off.

  • @The_Seldom_Killer

I've requested that LFGSS CC be listed as being available as a rider's club with AUK. This has been approved so you can now select this as your club on the website.
    .
It's up to you but hopefully this will mean it will also be available as a club with ACP for those planning on PBP. Also, it could mean that LFGSS CC can now be used as a recognised clubs for organising audaxes in the future.

    Cool.

  • 30kph max only means you can't get a stamp and leave a control until it's officially opened, there's nothing stopping you getting there early, eating/drinking/abluting/resting and then being ready to stamp and go the second it opens.

The really fast lot on LEL 2009 were at the Dalkeith control (~720km) before (or just as) it officially opened 24 hours after the start of the ride (a nice tailwind helped too). The first back to the finish took a more leisurely 40 hours to do the return 700km.

  • Lol I wish I had such worries as getting to a control before it opened!!!!!

  • Weather dependent I might take my plastic bike for its first 200k and try get round at a slightly less leisurely pace on Wednesday.

  • Yeah, if I was going that fast (which I'm not at the moment) I'd expect to be rocking up too early to places and having to wait.

I'm 90% sure I'll arrive late, in a huff and likely lost and then spend the day chasing people down in order to get the £20 off @rivegauche @@

  • Forecast for next Wednesday is looking good. http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2646316

  • Don't trust bbc weather.

Just spent three hours cleaning and lubing the Kinesis. Didn't get mudguards for the TT bike though. Will call it closer to Wed.

  • LOL entered.

Did another training ride today on the fixed. 136km. Couple of easy days tomorrow and Tuesday for recovery and I should be all set for Wednesday. Not training to increase speed or anything just to decrease any feelings of struggle and feel comfortable.

  • I rode out to Surrey Saturday morning for a quick 50 miles on my usual Audax bike, had two punctures and broke my chain twice. I will be riding my Colnago regardless of weather now!

  • Still debating bike choice. Weather looks ok but route sheet says 'likelihood of muddy lanes' and I don't have mudguards and the Kinesis got its second clean in two days today :)

  • Wondering which train to get. There is one that gets into Meopham at 0703 but may be cutting it a bit fine in case there are delays and queuing for brevets etc. The one before gets in at 0634. That'll give me ample time for tea and cake. OK, guess that settles it: tea and cake is the clear deciding factor.

  • Bike choice debate just got more interesting..

Looks like I'm going to have to be waking up at 4:30am or some shit to get to the start by 7-7:30. @rive_gauche may yet win this bet. :(

  • Cleaned the bike once too often it would seem. You can have my Enigma for this. The bottom bracket should be good for another easy 300km and the Continental rule. Just don't use the rear brake.

  • I'm just going to zip-tie it and see what happens. I like getting 'bang' for buck out of my bike parts so this should be fun.

  • That will buff out

  • I am back on the bike with mudguards after a last minute trip to decathlon for a chain and a cheap pair of randos. Looking forward to this, the two biggest climbs are at the start and it is pretty flat from there hopefully the weather is like today rather than yesterday

  • I could take the Tarmac out but for some reason I'm precious about it so it doesn't get used much. Silly really. I think it's just that I don't want to have to clean two bikes :)
Oh, it doesn't have any mudguard either. Too many bikes.. don't want to use any of them!
Maybe I'll go for the original plan of using the TT bike.

  • do it on the ss mtb

    #makesteveproud

  • No thanks. Doable but I am trying to use this as training for later in the year so it's either road bike or TT bike.

  • have you been given domestic authority to withdraw twenty pounds from your post office savings account..?

  • Oh, I'm riding biiatch. Snapped frame or not, I'll be in Gravesend before the off.

Better get out your Dad's hammer and chisel and bust into your piggybank. :P
