  • Not if I've start riding audaxes for Willesden and making all my training rides DIYs :P

  • Anyone else for Brazier's Run 100 a week on Sunday (28th 22nd)?

I'm back from skiing late the night before but should still be up for it. I've done the ride 3 or 4 times before, I like riding around that area and the early morning blat up from London is lovely.

9am start in Henham/Ugley, Essex so I'll be leaving SW15 5am-ish to ride up there.

I usually grab some food at the Total garage in Stansted Mountfitchet and then carry on up past the Ugley Biffa depot (http://goo.gl/maps/fM84m) to the 'Uts. Gives me about 45 mins or so to eat my petrol station breakfast before the ride proper starts. Train home (Elsenham to Libpool St) unless I'm feeling very energetic but the ride back into London isn't great with lots of traffic about on the B1004/B180/A1170/B176/A1010.

Any ice/snow and I'm staying in bed.

  • Ta. Brain elsewhere.

  • audax uk joined and LOL steam ride entered. This will be my first audax though have done a fair few long rides, dunwich etc

  • It was my first audax last year. I enjoyed it.

Might do it again, since it's so close. Tim's likely to have updated the route a little bit too.

  • Good choice for your first, it was a great route last year. The route is reversed this time, think the control stops are slightly different too.

  • 75k to the start
    100k
    75k retyrn

    Um.. or the Bedford reliability.

  • Route updated; how?

  • Well, the bridge should be fixed so that won't require a detour and Tim said was going to neaten up the bit back into town - it got a bit messy in Southall. I've used one of his slightly updated routes for training rides but I ditch the town bit because I'm heading home so I can't give you specifics on what he updated.

This from an email he sent out after the first one..
"Apologies on this 1st event with any misleading logistics and printing errors, the routes
were revised several times due to flooding and bridge closures and too many choices caused confusion.

I'm offering a free Ride on the LOL Perm accordingly, for anyone adversely affected (i.e.not gaining 2 AUDAX points )
The LOL PERM 221km (14hrs 15min limit), I will also email the track which bypasses the Uxbridge Rd, Southall entirely, which uses the A40 cycle route to navigate to the start/finish at Ealing Broadway, as the PERM route has NO information controls."

I was chatting with him about testing his updated route, last year..
"Still tweaking around with the modified route for 2015, but promises to be a bit more challenging as you get to ride more of the Chilterns."

  • Not sure how the route reversal will affect all this..

  • "Someone came up with the brilliant idea of reversing the direction, bypassing steep hills, avoiding Southall, new routes into/out of Oxford & Didcot, no flood diversions, whilst still keeping the flavor of the original ride and new controls.. acting on feedback to get it right.. looking for a route check "

  • I'm not going anywhere near where there's a depot of ugly biffers who can't spell. :)

I might be up for this. Not sure about riding out yet, TBC. I could join you wherever you ride past E5. I won't be riding back.

I'll let you know if I enter.

Nice ride format with the two halves.

  • @hippy, was pulling your leg. But it was actually not that bad.

  • Did a London-Brighton-London training ride today in readiness for the Wye Wednesday. On fixed of course with my usual 4kg of crap in the pannier; half of which I didn't need. A heavy D-lock that never got used and a whole box of muesli bars which didn't get eaten.

I was feeling so relaxed that I had this crazy idea of seeing if I could do it non-stop. But I made myself stop because I knew that I'd pay the price on the way back.

Had lunch with a friend, stocked up on snacks and then headed back. The traffic totally ruined the return journey. Even down country lanes there were lots of cars and vans. So annoying. But at least I've got a good taste of the conditions for next week.

  • Should I book on the LOL already? Is it filling up? I have friend who rides with me quite often who has just joined audax and wants to ride the LOL as his first one.

  • Isn't that already a longer ride than Wed?

  • You could ask on the Facebook group or email Tim to check? See links above.

  • Cool. Thanks hippy, I'll ask Tim. My route to Brighton is about 89km so a little bit less. I'll also have an extra 40 mins or so either end on Wednesday. I also need to eat more. All this 5:2 fasting means that I've got used to ignoring hunger. Not good on a full day's ride.

  • Fasting and riding fast do not mix. Fasting and riding far do not mix.

I think L2B2L for me is typically 210k+. Guess you must be more central or south or both.

Wye Wed will be interesting as it's going to be 50k across London just to get to the start and the start is ~7:30?

  • I'm SE in Sydenham. I've done it from West though when I lived near Ealing Hospital a few years ago. But now I can be at Purley cross in under an hour. I'm going to get the train to Meopham from Bromley South. It's around half an hour's ride. Then maybe 15 the other end. The train goes from Victoria and takes about half an hour.

  • I could train it but I had a interesting/late season and a quiet winter with a DVT so I want to get some more miles in. If the weather is nice I'll probably be blasting around on a TT bike just to wind up the sandal-wearers :)

  • The argument for the BCM that is, where quite a bit of the late out and early return leg are on the same road.

  • The bumps will just iron out.

  • Sorry, I don't get what this is in response to. What's BCM got to do with Wye?
