  • Whats the cause of your bursitis? I noticed recently that one of my favourite old pairs of jeans was aggravating my ITB and patellar tendon by somehow constricting my glute and tensor fascia latae, so may be worth having a wider think of possible causes.

My hand and knee tendinitis and bursitis usually flare up from overuse and insufficient rest. Ibuprofen, active rest, eventually massage and light stretching usually sort it out in a handful of days. I’ve had one treatment with corticosteroids on a knee tendon and it was never a problem again.

  • That’s interesting, I often have pain on my right side at the hip and have found that trousers with a higher rise are easier on me in that regard.

  • Not totally sure on the cause. The bursitis is in my heel. Main guesses are too much time sat down/sat in bed with baby which is causing tightness, but I’ve also been cycling more recently.
What’s weird tho, is that it’s come on after a handful of days off. And a generally ramping down of mileage over a couple of weeks. But the pain is enough to definitely be concerning.

@Brommers eek, hopefully I can find a solution.

  • Rest ice compress elevate and NSAIDs. Once the pain has subsided foam roller/massage gun and stretching.

My quads had got overly tight and caused too much tension around the knee joint so needed to free it all up with stretching etc. But while the fat pad was inflamed stretching etc just further antagonised it.

  • Bit late to this one but you can use painted mdf and add a sheet of toughened glass on top, add some clear rubber feet to the underside if you want a bit of vibration insulation. You can always paint the back of the glass.

  • pain on my right side at the hip

Same here but left hip. I wear jeans low, and the cut was impinging my muscle movement like an inverted bowstring. Higher trousers and shorts ftw.

@Nef bursitis is in my heel

Meaning your Achilles, the fatty pad underfoot or both? Does exercise or movement lessen the pain?

  • Cheers, that could be an option.

  • Back of the heel. Trying to loosen it up with movement/walking on it was painful. Gonna keep stretching and rolling today and see if I can get out for a ride later all being well. Exercise is about the only thing keeping me sane right now!

Cheers for the advice everyone btw. Weirdly reassuring to know that others have dealt with it.

  • Are there any mobile phone providers with U.K. based customer service? I know o2 used to be but don’t think that’s the case anymore.

    Thanks

  • What are the smoothest castors/wheels going?
I want to make a kind of stool that I can screw something to and wheel around but the wheels need to be buttery smooth and move in any direction, so as well as buttery wheels I need buttery swivels for them. I presume a tripod design seems the most stable.

  • To my mind a tripod would be the most stable if it were stationary, but moving around I think calls for 4 or even 5 wheels.

  • What are the smoothest castors/wheels going

All the cool kids are using castors based on in-line skate wheels.

Edit Oct. 22: Just done this upgrade on my office chair (Joyvita brand off of Amazon) Simultaneously amazing and, until you get used to them, terrifying compared with the stock IKEA plain bearing plastic casters. Definitely doing the upgrade from the off when I get a new chair.

  • If you go the inline skate wheels route as Tester says, you’ll do worse than popping some half decent skate bearings in there. Some Bones Reds are a good budget choice. For wheels, go for something under 80a (this is the urethane hardness - ‘durometer’).

  • Inline skate wheels are pretty buttery from the off if they aren't cheapos

  • Depends on the hardness. Something like a 99a wheel is going to be hard-ish - and especially if the weight it’s supporting is less than a human, that’s going to mean it might be a bit jittery. A soft cruising wheel will soak up any bumps/grit on the floor much better.

  • Good point, I was only thinking about the bearings tbh

  • J69:

Does anyone know if you can still park for free in the side roads near King's College Hospital? I'm going to be there for around 3 days but can't train or bike like normal because reasons.

    Eseman:

£24.50 for 5 day visitors permits. Know anyone nearby? Suggestion in case useful.

Just want to say a massive thanks to @Eseman for arranging some visitor parking permits for me. Baby delivered successfully this week in complicated birthing situation at not local hospital. Thanks to Eseman, minus the worry of how we were going to actually get to the hospital when original plan got scuppered by blanket change to the parking restrictions in the whole area last month. Nice to meet you irl. Hopefully be able to get a coffee together tomorrow.

  • Forum delivers once again

  • Congratulations!

I guess a visitor parking permit is almost like a car bon, so well within your area of expertise. :)

  • Thanks all re. wheel thought. Skate wheels a good shout and actually found this which is sort of what I'd like to build:

  • What's the greatest disparity in tooth count I can run on either side of a flip flop hub with the same length chain? Is there a way to work it out or is it trial and error? I'm sure this has been discussed before...

  • Is there a way to work it out

There's a rigorous way, and there's a rule of thumb. The difference is tiny, so just use the latter - for each tooth change in sprocket or chainring, the axle moves ⅛". How many you can get away with depends on how far you can move the axle in the dropouts/track ends.

  • I didnt really know where to put this question, and didnt think it warranted a new thread, so lets try here!

I was wondering if anyone knows of a company that makes an 1/8" chainring (for track use) that would fit on modern shimano 4 bolt hollowtech II road crank such as r7000?
