Tbf, you do live near 'actual mountain biking' trails, so don't fully appreciate the southern woodland bimbling approach :-)

Don't forget the Roach knee/shin pads.

great choice of frame :)
you want the following parts to build the ideal proletariat ride:
hope hubs to something tubeless wheels (yes you do want tubeless, it's not difficult)
sram 10spd shifter
sram gx 10spd rear derailleur
sunrace 10spd 42t cassette
brakes by shimano or hope (any model so long as no resin pads)
shimano ht2 cranks (m980 xtrs are great n cheap)
any old stem/post/saddle
sqlab alu swept back bars
vittoria barzo or mezcal tires

any old stem/post/saddle
may have 31.6 post (bontrager) too if you want

Have some other 2.25 maxxis rubbers that you can have if those are a bit heavy duty for dry rolling

brakes by hope
Yes. I have Hope brakes on all my bikes, and there is negligible difference between the X2 (2pot) and E4 and Mini Moto (4pot) ones I have but they all feel ace and are a breeze to bleed with the Hope kit.
The best of the lot are the oldest too: the Mini Motos on our Orange Patriot. Ridiculous amounts of power.

If actually riding this like a mountain bike then get a dropper. Best invention in mountain biking.

nah - overrated, expensive, ugly, servicing is a pain, some of us don't need to "get rad"
-
• #2511
I respect your opinion on everything but this
-
• #2512
you can't go wrong mit a solaris.
dropper posts are massive overrated, if you want to descend, just take you 15sec to lower the post. -

Dropper post are one of the best inventions in mountain biking. Disc brakes and droppers changed the game. If you disagree you are wrong.
People that have issues with them don't look after their bikes, don't use them enough or are unlucky. Only get mechanical forget about hydraulic.
Plus it isn't about getting rad it's all about having fun and flowing through a ride without constantly having to stop start.

not sure where i morally fall in the dropper wars just yet but my bank account makes the choices at this point, along with saying no to a lot of other mtb niceties
with this in mind i destickered the fork to give it a more "modern" look - i love a gaudy decal but these rockshocks ones just did not do it for me and were not loud enough, so time with a razor, rubbing alcahol and warm soapy water got them looking new
will likely add my own stickers at some point

This thread has more low-t mansplainers than an early 00s LAN party and I suspect many of the same culprits.

Should have all the bits coming for the…
Famous last words…!
This thread is now single-handedly responsible for me looking at steel hardtail frames on eBay. I shall resist for now but bookmarking all the excellent advice for the day that I inevitably crumble.

Cotic will be so good. I love a classic xc hardtail.
Looking forward to seeing it built up maj style.
I’m sure a dropper is nice, but the only time I rode with a friend who had one it was like riding with someone who had a triple on the front and couldn’t decide what chainring to run. The amount of fidgeting it took to decide on the right height was way too much for me.
2.25"??? This is not a grvl biek!!!
