ok now it's here im a bit more excited than i thought i would be
currently have a wiggle basket with boring stuff like bb, consumables, discs (gone 160mm?), adapters, bolts, also a 11 speed m5100 drive train with 52t casette which should take care of the shifting
need:
hydro brakes
crankset which can mount a 30t
get the fork serviced
get the bars i want from freshtripeother than this for the build up i have decided i will not be going dropper and tubeless, and will save those expenses for a later date,
hoping to have this done for the end of september and have a mtb ready before epping turns into mud all winter?

Are both those tyres Maxxis Beavers?
-
• #2482
hydro brakes
Don't listen to Amey when he suggests MT200s.

that's what they say on the sidewall - should i be binning them immediately?!?!
-
• #2485
They're pretty good, though more suited to muddy conditions, so you might find them a tiny bit draggy compared to some others available
Not excessively draggy, as they're still an XC tyre :-)
Probably ideal for Epping 9 months of the year...

I've got some Shimano m506 hydro brakes, front and rear that I could let go of if that's what you're after?

Got some ratty Sram X0 carbon cranks with a 32t ring on knocking about. 175s tho
-
• #2488
oh damn, both of these sound desirable?!
@PhilDAS i assume the sram cranks just fit a gxp bb? 175 is fine with me, i believe i have that on 2 out of 3 bikes.
and the m506's @josh assume these are more than fine for someone not doing fort william quals?
let me know what prices you want as i have quite a strict budget in mind for this to get it rolling!

GXP

Going for a bit of Eastern European freeride? Bike is looking great by the way. Can't beat a doing it all hardtail for all round riding.
-
• #2492
when i do tubeless it will be getting new tyres - but for now i will use these things
i assume i'm obliged to get vittoria mezcals as all the semi squish/rigid mtb i call a touring bike havers use?
-
• #2493
i will only be riding in boot cut denim and orisis, xxxl no fear tees
-
• #2494
wasnt @BareNecessities saying barzo are a little better as all rounder? Dunno I dont have any vittoria experience.
-
• #2495
Mezcals are great gravel and dry condition tyres
Barzos ( the decent TNT G2 version ) are the best all round XC tyre ever
-
• #2496
These are decent btw: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/175204148403
You can obvs look at pinkbike etc for better used stuff.
There is NOTHING more liberating than being able to bleed your brakes, 100% essential skill IMO. Loads of good bleed kits around.

once this is all built it's going to the bike person for a service - then it will only ever go to a bike person for a service - i will be surprised if i ride this bike more than 20 times a year.
am not deceiving myself on this one - it is not being built to smash miles or do a tour, although it may have been inspired by one. it is simply to bop around the forest on, ride to the pub occasionally, maybe do an overnighter glamping one warm evening in the future.
for the most part it will get hosed down and stored in the shed for whenever someone says "we're going to the forest this weekend" and i have not been able to worm my way out of going with some lame exscuse like "im burned out", "i haven't got a bike" or "i'd rather watch real housewives of Beverly hills*"
(*season 2 was such a fucking banger, truly unreal television, season 3 is shaping up to be even better, i love this show so much, andy cohen is a genius)
