• Ah yes. That's a charge! I wish they still made steel bikes (other than the bottom of the range plug), had a bit of a soft spot for them.

I found this while browsing the internet, v brakes and disc mounts is very ugly though:

  • And here is a contribution to the thread, did post it elsewhere but it fits here much better.

  • Like that a lot.

  • Edit. Any more pics of the paint job in full?

  • My old Roller on 35's, definitely regret selling that bike.

  • At least it doesn’t have a unicrown.

I wonder if you could remove either the brake posts or the disc mount and make it cleaner?

  • Lacquered it and haven’t rebuilt yet as I want to give it all plenty time to cure.

Here’s the full frame (pre lacquer).

Not sure how resilient it’ll be. I scraped the paint off the stainless headbadge and stuff and it came off pretty easily but that was when it was really fresh. Hopefully it’s hardened up a bit now.

  • Wild crackle effect! Is there more or less paint on the bits that have crackled the most?

  • I think more of the blue paint = heavier crackle.

It says you can reapply after 5 min for a more crackled effect but I think the ‘best’ bits are where I laid it on thick first time.

  • Found these frame builders online
    https://www.republica.cc/modelos/Gambá
    £264 for tracklocross frameset.

Not my cup of tea but good price.

  • Yes I could remove the disc brake mounts as I have no use for them. It's kinda like a cross-check fork. It's also almost identical to the geo of the current fork I have just with much more clearance. Maybe I should just go for it.

  • Didn't expect to see a tracklocross builder in Brazil! If anyone wants a hand in communicating with them, I can help.

  • Excellent trail bike.

  • Rat Crosscheck

  • I have been collating a list of 'practical' SS frames and this thread seems like a good place to share it. By 'practical' I mean disc brakes (sorry), clearance for decent size tyres and mudguards, and maybe even a rack—so basically a modern singlespeed tourer/gravel bike. Inspired by abr's list of SS disc framesets with decent clearances.

Loosely categorised below. (Not including bikes that aren't available frame(set)-only or SS off the peg, as I wouldn't expect someone to buy a new complete geared bike and then remove all the components.)

Been through this rigmarole recently. Some hub options available but you'll end up getting a Surly Ultra New, so just do that and save yourself the bother.

  • considering running my singlespeed charge plug grinduro fixed.
what issues if any am i likely to run into?
can i just screw a fixed cog + lockring on in place of the freewheel?
i'll keep the rear disc brake on.
what's the preference for clipless or straps?
