Caley Fretz from Velo News has come up with my favourite collective noun for these bikes:
The industry has not yet settled on nomenclature, and we hate the term “gravel grinding.” For now, I’m going with groad, mostly out of spite.

Please try and understand the aesthetic of the Tour of Arae. Do not wear loud logos and busy >lycra, do not wear a Camelbak or ugly Oakleys, and no GoPros please... In the spirit of how >the great Italians did it, let's drink water and red wine, and eat bread and beautiful cheese.

How does that differ from the Eroica rules about period dress? They're just trying to create a particular style of race and have their guidelines to suit. The Tweed Ride would be a bit shit if I was in my skinsuit on the Shiv in the back of every photo, no? Anyway, if you don't like it, change the channel.
