  • I now know personally 4 or 5 people who have it at the moment (myself included) who haven’t been in contact with each other plus a few friends of friends. Seems to be really, really bad in Manchester at the moment.

  • Seems to be really, really bad in Manchester at the moment.

After pretty much nothing all year, I started seeing cases amongst staff at work just before lockdown, next door neighbour has had it bad enough to be bed ridden for the past week or so too.

  • Got the results back from today’s test within 12hrs. Still got to isolate for another week as I’m legally bound to from the first positive one.

  • There is a new record of 33k tested infections today, shouldn't this be the time to see if the lockdown
    is working?

I think they should be dropping by now, assuming a 5-7 day incubation period.

With regards to the 33k figure, it’s a bit of a sudden spike outside the curve like you can see on 4th October and 21st October. They are all outside the general deviation of the curve which suggests it might include some missed previous counting, a delay, sudden change in testing etc. If you take out that one high reading, we’re still hovering around 21-22k new tested cases per day where it has settled for a few weeks now.

Edit: I’m not ruling out a sudden effect from mass last-minute binge socialising, but if you put that data in front of me blind for data analysis that’s what I’d say about it. Scientist hat.

  • How does/will the mass Liverpool testing affect these numbers?

If you suddenly test lots more people you're going to find a lot more asymptomatic cases.

  • which suggests it might include some missed previous counting, a delay, sudden change in testing etc.

Gov have confirmed that there has been no sudden change in testing or retrospective figures included. Its weird as you say. Its worth noting that last week saw an 8% reduction in tests being taken...

  • Those numbers weren’t included in the data. I’m pretty sure if you get a positive in the rapid testing you get sent to a test centre to confirm it as there’s a section to fill in on the NHS website when applying for a test that asks you if you are part of that programme.

  • Are these NHS tests or ONS?

We are still waiting on results from a test on Monday 9am, rang again today, and told that the standard turn around is 5 days after the test has been received by the lab, so that means we should get the results Saturday night\Sunday morning. The crazy thing is that we can come out of isolation on Tuesday as it has taken so long!

The thing that amazes me is that if she returns a positive (we think unlikely as all symptoms have gone) then there is a 7 day period where none of her contacts have been traced, and she is a teacher, so sees lots of people...

  • I went for an NHS test yesterday at 11am and got results at 11pm. Amazing service surprisingly.

  • arghhhhhhhhh!

I guess it must be because we live in the middle of nowhere, so our tests have to be shipped off somewhere.

  • Can you have flu like symptoms with no temperature and test positive?

    Yes.

Or are do symptomatic Covid-19 cases always have a temperature?

    No.

  • My friend had what she thought was a cold, she thought it was 99% not covid and we had to convince her to get a test which came back positive.

  • Which of the 3 symptoms did she have that made her eligible for a test?

I've had a couple of colds since March but without a temperature/cough/no taste I get no test.

  • If you suddenly test lots more people you're going to find a lot more cases.

Alright, Donald. Sorry about the election.

  • Not that I know of - there have been lots of reports outlining the distribution of individual symptoms, but I've not seen anything that shows the combination of these symptoms in individuals. But there may be something out there.

  • I imagine she lied, she’s since lost taste/ smell and had a fever but had cold like symptoms to start with.

  • It's stories like these that make you realise the zombie movie trope of 'someone gets bitten but hides it from the others until it's too late' is very possible haha.

  • Have to admit, I find the "only get a test if you've got these three symptoms a bit odd when plenty are getting Covid with no symptoms.

My personal advice would be if you have any of the symptoms listed on the WHO symptoms page, and want to be on the safe side, go and get a test.

This is particularly true if you're out and about a lot due to work / children etc.

    https://www.who.int/health-topics/coronavirus#tab=tab_3

Maybe the three symptoms is to stop over subscription to the testing service, but if you feel off and are out in the community a fair bit - go and get a test.

  • You were allowed (encouraged, even) to get the test if you thought you had it for any reason for a while. Then there was a shortage of tests and Hancock blamed people who didn't have the key symptoms for getting tests, despite having told people to do exactly that if they thought they may have it for "any reason."

  • Its more likely that someone marked it as routine, or it may have gotten lost in the lab.
Recent experience tells me these things.

  • Was just a nightmare really, and I know her school are really struggling with people being off for so long.

Results came through 10 mins, negative, at least it means we can get some milk now...

  • I approached the subject to my bosses of testing positive if I where to get a test or my partner caught it in hospital .
You would get statuary sick pay that’s it .
That will be the same for many workers who have had no time off this year .

  • Yeah that was a strange period of the pandemic with absolutely no foresight or planning for when the kids went back to school.

From my experience and people I know now it’s dead easy to get a test and results are generally back by the end of the following day. Yesterday I decided to get one and booked a test for 30 mins later, drove through and didn’t even have to leave my car and results back the same day... really impressive.

It's not nice of them to imply you'd be like a statue to them. :)
