  • Tonights only going to get better. I'm emboldened, off to the pub to ask for a work bench and some lie nielsen chisels.

  • “it seems prudent to refrain from further polluting this thread”

  • You’re not the first and it’s most unlikely you’ll be the last person on this forum who blindly fails to see when it’s way past time to shut up as you’re now basically talking to yourself and convincing everyone else of just how much of a prick you are. Still, your choice.

  • For all your posturing, your comment stinks of you being a bitter vapid cunt.

  • Is that a pub filled with people who know you, many of whom respect your work and have bought things from you in the past, which still serve them well? Do those people also see the longer term value in you having the financial space to set up your business so that you can contribute extremely high quality products to the community that they value? Are they also the kind of people who would not hesitate to tell you to fuck off if they thought you were over-asking, but instead will give constructive feedback, make genuine offers of their time to help you plan and give you the best chance of succeeding.

    If so, fair enough.

  • And up in flames it went! Obviously this account has got to go and this will be the end of my limited participation on LFGSS. But it does appear that a group of long-time users have banded together to defend one of their own at all costs, without giving consideration to the alternative argument. I apologise for challenging one of the founding fathers and it's a good thing this is the internet, cos really it's getting unnecessarily nasty.

I don't really want to be immature and leave with the last word, but shall we say 10k plus views on this thread and only 49 donations.

  • only 49 donations

"Only"? 49 people prepared to make a completely no-strings-attached donation simply to help someone get something up and running. That sounds pretty good to me.

I've never even met @Black_Rainbow_Project and I'd take his side over yours because you've obviously just stuck your oar in where it's not needed, wanted or justified and immediately had to resort to the "look at how you're all attacking me just because I've made an alternative argument" whinge.

  • Just think how cosy and warm you'll feel when you make it 50
    xxx

  • Nah, nowt in it for him, so why bother?

  • Quite a few posts before I resorted to that, it's more of an acknowledgement that this conversation cannot progress any further. It has descended into childish mud slinging and I think it began with a salient question/point, but that view is obviously not shared. Honestly I don't feel like a victim and an aware I contributed to it's dive into the gutter, nothing lost bar an evening. Not sure it's healthy for a forum to shout someone down with such venom. @Black_Rainbow_Project sorry I shouldn't have got petty, not helpful or deserved and I hope it goes ok.

@jontea, I hope you manage to resolve what's making you so angry, carrying that sort of rage around is unhealthy for a man of your vintage. Heal up.

  • Don't carry any rage around ta, sleep well, enjoy my day to day life, love getting out on the bike with friends on a weekend, quite a placid guy actually.
    What vintage would that be?

  • What a twat...I'm donating.

  • @Black_Rainbow_Project even @wildwest just called you a twat! What a night...

  • Wow, what have I missed??!
    Pedrito, you're a prick!
    Scott you're a legend!

  • Is the argument still going on? Is this now maybe a time to say that I found a BRP water bottle at the back of my cupboard and I have been using it again and I love it... I bought 2 back then and forgotten I had a spare one... :-)

Speaking of which, Scott, are you you still selling some bottles or sth that you were going to a while back?

  • as has been pointed out several times now, you could have had a discussion on the mores of gofundme in any suitable thread. What you're doing is akin to wandering in to a wedding ceremony and expecting it to be an appropriate time to discuss polyamory vs monogamy and the virtue of non-fault divorce.

    Tone. Deaf.

  • I don't understand why someone would stick their oar in like this. Even if you looked at this thread and thought "blimey that's a bit cheeky asking for money for nothing", why would you say so, given that there's loads of people happily donating?

    It's bizarre behaviour.

  • my thoughts exactly. If I 100% agreed with pedrito, I'd still be baffled by the way they've gone about this.

It feels more like a situation where the appropriate response is 'I don't agree with the way BRP has gone about this so if I'm ever in a similar situation, I will do things differently'.

  • Ok you've made your point, very badly but you've made it. So now shut your boring hole and piss off because this wasn't a thread designed for you to troll or give your (insignificant and useless) opinion. If people want to donate, donate, if they don't then don't. Simple as that. The beauty of this forum is that its a community with actual real people who know each other. You never really made a salient point and even if you think you did, noone asked you. Bye now

  • "I gave BRP money and all I got was this t-shirt"

  • ... And a TB 3, and a pump! ;)

  • Your trite posturing is so fucking cheap

The lack of self-awareness here is almost profound.

  • It's a public forum, if you're going to post asking for money it's reasonable to expect a certain level of scrutiny. My opinion is not preventing anyone from donating, so why the fervour to silence the discussion? Whether an emotive paragraph about passion and mental health entitles Scott to your money is an individual choice. He's not just asking his mates for more money, but a public forum read by thousands of people. My intervention was not limited to the virtues of Gofundme, but more specifically sought to ascertain whether it was ethical for Scott to request people's money without any thought of repayment, therefore this thread seemed the perfect place for the discussion. Should he have sought readily available and free business advice, or explored conventional funding avenues before going cap in hand to the forum? Does accepting peoples money oblige him to produce a plan outlining how he will use it?

I believe the above are all legitimate avenues for exploration that pertain directly to Scott's request and don't necessarily merit petty insults. This place should exist as a forum for discussion and not echo chamber, regardless of how inelegant my argument has been. Furthermore the whole nonsense appear far more insidious read alongside the numerous PM's I have received detailing BRP's past failure to deliver paid for goods and disappearance when owing money. Guess people don't need to know this before donating.

This whole thing could have been more constructive if folk had championed Scott's cause rather than calling me a cunt. I am not denying his right to ask, rather defending mine to call bullshit. I can't ever imagine feeling sufficiently entitled to ask anyone for 6k no strings attached.
