So nice to see someone restore a bike rather then just bin it, sentimental value appreciated. Good job!

• #253
Thank you. Would have been a lot easier to bin it and get another slightly less rotten old bike. But as you say, sentimental value etc.

A bit of wet snow today, thought of taking the mtb to work but remembered I still haven't sorted a front rack and couldn't be bothered to change bag so just took the big block as usual. It's the best bike I've had, I think. Currently in winter mode with lights, studded tyres etc. Just keeps on going. Excuse the crap pic, lens got a bit wet I think.

Belated bravo on the red city/shopper bike... Enjoyable project to read through. How is it to ride?

Thanks! It's apparently great and v comfy. Not really summer cruising weather here atm but she's tried it on some short distance errands and everything works as it should.

Get the endcaps on those stays! Your legs will thank you
-
• #261
Yeah they came off when I had to adjust the stays for the winter tyres. No idea where I've put them. #shinsofsteel

This'll probably be used by the rats and cockroaches long after we're all gone. Got me to work in horrid conditions, was quite fun too!

Great stuff, what’s the rack on the all city?
Edit: Just reread the thread- custom stylee!

Thanks, yeah it's based on the cheap sjs rack which I mutilated a bit.

Not had much time for tinkering during the last 6 months but picked myself up and updated the mtb a bit with a spinny bottom gear and blazed an epic trail round our family summer house. Started off thinking I'd add one of these expander cogs to my 1x10 setup.

Which meant I had to switch RD, the zee can't swallow a 42t. CRC had these sunrace ones on sale and internet wisdom suggested a 90% chance of success so why not. No instructions in the box and hardly any pics on google but it worked out ok.

However, the expander cog was offset towards the spokes which made the chain rub on the rear tyre and sometimes pushed it down to the 36t. Very annoying. Nevertheless I pushed off trying to find a ~50km trail that I can use when we're on holiday. I had done a local race last year so had a few ideas but I got well and truly lost more than once. Phone compass flipped 180 degrees twice for instance.

The weather kept getting hotter. Having gone down and up a hill and round a horse paddock three times trying to find a way through, I ran out of water. Thankfully the struggle to gather up the local farmers last pennies and wipe out any sign of free thinking resulted in a local church being built a few hundred years ago. Which now had a water tap handy. Refreshed, I pushed on. The bike did ok but I couldn't back pedal in the lower gears.

I've heard that the Sunrace derailleurs are made of cheese. If it ever fails on you zee will happily take up to 46 cog with this:

Not much going on bike wise due to other things in life but what has been super annoying with both the wife granny bike and the little Poni cargo/shopper is wheel flop. So I finally got round to fitting steering dampers on them. Hardly the neatest of jobs but seem to work. When I finally get round to welding some more rack tubing + disc tabs (or rollerbrakes) + electric assist on it, I'll fit a proper spring mount. Also fitted a double kickstand and got rid of the horrible steel bars and crappy grips.
