  • It's not everyone has a separate room in their bike dungeon for a gucci gimp!

  • Really? Well I'll let everyone know when I get tired of mine.

  • Found out the frame and fork spacings were off by quite a bit and not in any way symmetrical. Bit of string, some bending, filing, swearing and wheels are now centered. Tracking is acceptable.

  • List of things to do:

    1. Buy new front wheel spokes
    2. Build front wheel
    3. Find out whether internal dynamo wiring is still intact and functional
    4. Install new BB bits and the bastard one piece cranks
    5. See 3.
    6. Install mudguards and lights
    7. Go see a friend about welding the pannier rack back together
    8. Acquire and install front rack + wicker basket
    9. Put wheels on, give bike to wife, result.
  • 1,2 & 3 above - check.

  • Also got the wonky frame situation explained to me. 'Don't know how many times I've crashed that bike. I rode home drunk a lot on it at uni'.

  • that'll do it!
great and worthwhile project, can't wait to see it finished.

  • Piece by piece. Rear light transplant, worked out ok.

  • That is pretty clever. Is that light a SON-clone?

  • Thanks. Its a b&m "toplight line small":

  • Loving your work here. Bravo.

  • Nice work on the rear light!

  • Thanks for the kind words. Here's a few pics of the final stretch. Got a 'metro porteur' rack from velovitality, but the struts were too short so had to make some from alu tubing I had laying around.

  • A bit of flame + bending, hammering and swearing had the light mount twisted into an unrecognisable state, making it suitable for rack mounting. Zip tied the wiring here and there and slapped the basket on top of everything.

  • Ta-daah, in time for Christmas too. The double kickstand appears to be super functional, it's giving me ideas for other bikes.

  • Good job on this.
Looks good with the grey tyres too.

  • I love my double kickstand.

Great work on this. Nice project with sentimentality, restoration and some high quality bodging. 10/10. May your wife ride it home drunk again soon.

  • Beautifully executed!

  • Ha ha, thanks a lot people!

  • Great resto! Looks like new.

  • Is the curly blue wire the dynamo/light power? And so is the frame part of the lighting circuit...?! Which hub is the dynamo? Sorry for so many questions and if it's obvious. Love the rear light transplant, that looks excellent. Bringing old stuff up to date while keeping the original style and parts is very cool.

  • Front hub is the dynohub. A lead + earth wire goes to the front light to close that circuit. The curly blue wire is the lead from the headlight to the rear. It's bolted to a connector on the rear of the HT and an internal wire goes through the frame to a similar thing at the BB. From there the wire goes under the rear mudguard to the rear light, which is then earthed to the frame via a bolt to the mudguard stays.
