We have a bouncing dot.
41 days and just under an hour.
Two weeks longer than Lionel.
Phew what a relief and what a show of tenacity.

Well done Neil, that took some hard core determination. Chapeau

Thanks VB for keeping this on the home page.

Just as I moved it :)
I did promise to keep it there until he finished :D

• #3407
You said that you would until Lionel finished. I am grateful that you gave us the extra two weeks for Neil.

• #3408
Has he posted anything on Facebook?

Nice one @WornCleat a feat of endurance of its own.

• #3411

So he seems recovered. Wonder what happened in Tiarana. He also appears to have lost a huge amount of weight. Hardly surprising, I suppose.
-
• #3413
He shouldn't have lost any weight. It would be quite possible to put weight on riding that 'little'.
A show of tenacity indeed.
-

He shouldn't have lost any weight.
That assumes he was at his preferred weight at the start of the ride. Not everyone is skinny.
If he had a load of spare timber at the start then a slight calorie deficit will work wonders over the course of the ride. If he was at his target weight at the start of the ride, and still lost load then, yes, he did it wrong.

He rode 20% of the Daily distance that you rode. Under 100km a day. That said, if I rode 100 km a day, it would lead to weight loss.

Which actually brings a thought to mind.
Chris Hall, who many of you may know rode 107 km a day for 107 days from December 2016 to whenever in 2017. He rode around his working day.
Neil Matthews’ achievement makes Chris’ all the more impressive although Chris did get to go home, had company on many rides and didn’t, so far as I know get attacked by dogs.

My point was he looks incredibly thin there, too thin and has obviously been under eating, which is less than ideal in performance terms.

Well, that wasn't the thought I expected. :)

I wouldn't mind "constantly missing my goals" and "not doing great", but still completing the TCR route and Lejog in those times!

I've been following this thread for some time now and have been disgusted by some of the posts written by our resident keyboard warrior Hippy! Neil Matthews has had a very unfortunate tour facing challenges other riders hadn't had to deal with and yet slogged it out to the bitter end to finish the tour in incredible fashion. Neil has shown grit and spirit Hippy could only dream off and age for age is by far the better athlete and cyclist. I would like our resident keyboard warrior to man the f up and issue a public apology to #thelastmanstanding Neil Matthews!

You know he was the world champion 24hr time triallist right? Ok cool. Nice first post by the way!

This is all getting a bit weird / uncomfortable viewing.

@LastManStanding must be Neil Matthews, no?
Actually rather relieved. The usual least rider takes 28 or so days. 41 is just too much of a good thing. But it does allow us all to fantasise that we could do it in less.
Mind you 41 days on the road, sleeping rough, attacked by dogs, suffering from sunstroke and navigation going to pot. Chapeau. Bloody big chapeau.
