  • I can send you pics of the Shiv.

    Regards,
    Captain Mismatch

  • Looks ace, even better with the Hed front wheel. Gonna cut down the steerer?

  • I think I will at some point. It doesn't feel too aggressive, and as you can see, the hand position is a fair bit higher than the drops would be.

I'm considering putting the HED on another 650 biek I've acquired, so may build up a new rear wheel for this using the matching Wolber rim I have and a 7700 hub or something.

  • "While you were posting on Instagram, I was studying rolling resistance and aerodynamics. I will leave you humbled, bloodied and utterly crushed. Do not seek my advice, bear witness to my suplesse."

I'm stealing this ^. Especially "bear witness to my suplesse"; actually I want that shit on a sticker!

  • Are you times tumbling for the club TT's?

  • Loooooooool. Maybe they will. Maybe they will.

  • I'm doing my club TT's with my bike with dynamo and mudguards just so I can blame them when I get beat by each and every senior lady. I'm weak and I know it.

  • How are the v-brake noodles doing with Aero levers ?

    Any post fitting dramas ?

Been following the thread and about to attempt something similar with Aero levers, old Sake road bars and Aero-bars. Flop and chop if i can get a working cable run......

  • I'm doing my first TT on Tuesday as part of my training for not humiliating myself quite so much when CX season rolls around. I don't have an appropriate bike, weigh too much, I'm weak and feeble. Any advice to guarantee success?

  • When I did this, I asked the man holding up my bike at the start (there might be a name for this job) and he said, "don't go out too fast."

    That's it.

  • So far the noodles are a real success. I need to get some white cloth bar tape to hold them down tho.

  • Ta fizzy.bleach.

i bodged a trial run and used gear cables, managed to get a good run through. Might be a bit draggy as i think the gear cables are a tad less in diameter than brake cables.
I chopped the horns off the bars and have the cables zip tied down. Next step is setting up properly and playing with aero bars.
Been watching your build and thinking "got that, could do that" :)

  • I'm gonna do a local club 10 on Wednesday, but haven't decided exactly which one yet. Most likely J2/1 or D10/1.

I took the Donal out for a test run tonight, taking in suburban estates, farm tracks and motorway junctions. Here's a picture of the bike in its natural home: a hedgerow next to a poorly surfaced and busy B road.

Do note the front light that's drooped down and the SPD pedals. I was rushing out between putting my son to bed and making tea and I realised I didn't have any shoes with Look cleats attached, so I changed the pedals round.

Also, one of the clip-ons has cracked a bit around one of the bolt holes. So that's bad. Dead soon I expect.

  • @fizzy.bleach what do you reckon is the fattest tyre size you can shorn into the Alpina track fork ?

    25c with ease, possible 28c ?

  • I'd have to check to be honest. If you ask in the Dolan thread someone will know straight away.

  • I think mine is the track version (it is drilled but came with the Pre Cursa) and fits a fairly chunky 28mm Schwalbe Durano with about 2 or 3mm all round on a fairly narrow rim.

  • Ta @velohobbit added that to my little list on the Dolan thread :)

  • If you're in North Manchester, the Seamons CC clud 10 on Wednesday might suit you too. Near Lymm.

  • Cheers Matt. That one's on my list but they go on about limited guest places. Have you done it and is it generally safe to rock up as a guest?

  • I haven't ridden it yet. I read all that stuff about max 50 riders etc etc but if you look at the results lists for this year and last year they never get more than 30 people turning up so I'm pretty confident it'll be ok. Worst case I'll wait till they've finished! Just keen to do another course than J2/1.

  • Might see you at one of those events. Will keep an eye out.
Thinking of heading to whichever pub the 01FIX1 ride ends up at for post-TT hydration so if I spot you and know something's happening, will let you know :-)

  • Just keen to do another course than J2/1.

What night do you do that on? The Manchester Wheelers/Stockport one?

@Lukas - yeah just shout! How can I recognise you?

I joined Bury Clarion, but may not have affiliated myself to CTT yet... Or however it works? Do you need to renew for each club?

  • J2/1 on a Wednesday. Westmead Team 88 run it. https://www.westmeadteam88.co.uk/event.php?type=club

    Decided to do Seamons tomorrow.

  • Ha - another one on my list. I grew up just near there.

I'm doing Seamons too. It's closest to me and I won't have the car until about 5:45 because my wife's bike died tonight (annoying story) so she needs the car tomorrow.

  • I'll be at the Westmead one tonight, on a little black Dolan without decals and with deep china carbons, in a cheap black skinsuit. Probably easier for me to spot you on your green machine :-)
