Lever start position and end position. Not tooooooo bad, and the flat boss cover looks ok.

Why don't you just stick a bar-end shifter in the bars instead?
-
• #130
That's what someone suggested on retrobike. It's an option but means buying shit.
-
• #131
I think I've got a spare FD bar-end shifter you can have for cheap?
-
• #132
FD as in front derailleur?
-
• #133
What's wrong with that? More aero.

• #134
From above you can't see the Dura Ace logo, so how will I remind myself of the premium and retro nature of the biek as I'm overtaken by my eight minute man?

Thanks :) Can I park the offer? If people don't find the current compromise too objectionable, I'll stick with it for now.

I’ve got a yellow flite that would suit this . If I ever sell I’ll let u know !

Progress is slow but steady. I've had to pause gear cabling because I've lost the white gear cable I had lying around. It's either at work somewhere or at home. Safe.
Still struggling with the brake cable routing coming out of the levers. No solution seems to be both aesthetically and mechanically pleasing.
Also, I'm having to go with the Wolber front wheel for the time being because the valve extender fell off(!) the HED when I was moving the bike around. HAd a quick poke and the tub needs regluing anyway so that's a job for another time...

Maybe flexible V-brake noodles could work to make the cable routing nicer?
-

Good idea. I'll check that out.

I noticed the BB cups wouldn't screw in all the way, then I actually checked Shimano's instructions and it turns out I've been doing it wrong. You put the BB in first, then the NDS cup, which makes total sense. However, doing this has moved my 110mm BB inwards by about a mill, meaning the cranks now rub the chainstay. Will need to use the correct 113mm BB.
Thanks for reading this thrilling update.

BB spacer?
When's the first TT?

When's the first TT?
Loooooooooooooooooooool
I've been caught off guard by having to move to Manchester, which is happening in May, so I'm just rushing around trying to build this in my lunchtimes right now. Will have to look into TTs oop there at some point I guess.

Plenty of tt south of manchester- J courses are ok, bit bumpy on the whole and moderately sporting.
J2/9 rings a bell but I haven’t tucked myself down low (oioi) for a while -
• #145
Yeah my dad lives on a couple of the J courses (A535). I'll be moving (hopefully) to Bury, so not even sure of what local clubs there are yet.

Good news: the flexible V-brake noodles look like they do the job in easing the cable transition from the levers to the bars
LOL news: the gear cable prevents the lever from reaching the top position (biggest cog) so it's effectively a 7-speed biek

There used to be a sketchy club 10 round heywood and birch services doing two hilly laps, but I’m not sure it’s still going
Bound to be something round bury. And if not they have steam trains! -

All done except bar tape. I was worried that the brake setup would be cack with the dodgy routing, single pivot calipers, and dessicated pads, but it surpassed expectations.
165 cranks and big gears make for tired legs though.
The original owner finally got back to me. He said 8 speed Shimano 600 levers went on fine and showed me a picture. I'll have to get some at some point.
And take some better pics after we move on Tuesday.

Certified banger. Would bang/10.
I like the mismatched tyre, it says: "While you were posting on Instagram, I was studying rolling resistance and aerodynamics. I will leave you humbled, bloodied and utterly crushed. Do not seek my advice, bear witness to my suplesse."

PS If you want to factor-in crank length to your gearing calculations, you need to get to grips with Gain Ratio.
Haha!
