I’ll admit I used to read this thread with scorn and laugh at all the anti-Huel comments, I even kind of agreed with the Guardian article.
But now here I am, sitting back and sipping on an overly sweet, grainy, beaker of Huel. I’ve decided to give it a try for putting some weight on. Anyone else use it for this?
I began this just with 3 scoops of vanilla, 400ml of water and a few chunks of frozen banana. It’s not the worst thing, very similar to protein shakes I’ve drank before. But does seem to have a pretty disgusting aftertaste.
I ordered unflavoured too so maybe I’ll try one scoop of that next time. Anyone drink it with milk/almond milk instead of water?

Google coffee, cortisol and fat.
Related to this - do you have any good sources for info - I can find stuff stating the basic correlation, but want more info.
For e.g., if I'm pretty tolerant of coffee/caffeine will that reduce the level of cortisol secretion? And what is the effective life of cortisol in the body/bloodstream (most days I don't eat until 1pm so is a coffee at 9am/11am going to effect that?)

I've tried unsweetened with unsweetened almond milk and it was OK... Prefer it with water to be honest. Haven't tried milk yet.
If you fill the jug with ice 1/3 and pour espresso/aeropress over the ice, then add vanilla Huel, it's really good. Coffee with unsweetened tastes like Boris Johnsons taint after a long flight though. Now I just stick with unsweetened and occasionally add some cacao or cinnamon but always with water.
Vanilla is nice but probably not great to consume sucralose too often. There's certainly a mental barrier for some people with this stuff. A friend responded with near anger when I was telling her about it, saying it isn't real food and can't possibly be healthy etc. No amount of facts would changer her mind either, let alone the prospect that it was probably healthier and cheaper than making a pack lunch... Others seem to just get it when you explain what it is and isn't but being a bit weirded out by it is totally natural.

The thing is, you don't know that it is healthier, you are taking the company at face value on that (no specific reason to doubt them, just pointing out one path of dissent that sort-of makes sense).
Also, as we see in politics, opinions are rarely based on facts and are even less likely to be changed by exposure to other facts.
Has anyone tried any other savory versions? I must say I'd not considered adding a stock cube to it before

True true. Assuming it is all above board, there's really nothing in there that our current understanding of nutrition would take offence at, providing the company are honest, which I believe them to be.
After all, they're subject to the same regulation as any other food company in the EU.But then horsemeat...

that our current understanding of nutrition
This is the problem I and others will probably have with it (not enough to put me off trying it, and not trying to disagree with you).
Fifteen hundred years ago everybody knew the Earth was the center of the universe. Five hundred years ago, everybody knew the Earth was flat, and fifteen minutes ago, you knew that humans were alone on this planet. Imagine what you’ll know tomorrow.

We've had a pretty good run at figuring out what's healthy to eat ;)
At this point it's basically all optimisation/adjusting to requirements. -

My brothers a certified trainer, he took his certs up to the highest ymca level, which is very tough. Part if this included nutrition. He told me I drink too much coffee and knocking it on the head would shift the stubborn bits in addition to the usual regime. I'll ask him to comment.

Have you stopped coffee entirely? Don't think I could do that. Only need one in the morning but it's pretty crucial.

Living and existing are two different things. Coffee falls under living for me.

Did 100% Huel yesterday for the 1st time... Still alive.

Took Huel to work. Bought hand blender. Blended with milk, banana and shot of espresso. Tried to avoid cringing too much while doing it. fpkw

Did you wear your Huel t-shirt as well? :)

Did you wear your Huel t-shirt as well? :)
Wore as bandana so as to be able to be topless and flex bicep while drinking.

i`ve been quietly making it at the sink and then almost immediately necking it so as not to be seen. Obviously this makes me far more of a weirdo than Huel alone does. But there it is

Anyone got any blending techniques? Have a wire ball but still finding it lumpy if I don't use a hand blender. What am I missing
-
• #320
Found the same. Decided to go full Huel and bought a cheap hand blender that'll live at work.

Two shakers and dry shake the powder and ball in one first, before adding it to water in the second.
Not perfect but better. -

Mine seems to come out better when I do:
400 ml water + ice cubes + 3 scoops
Shake
Add aeropress coffee
ShakeDunno if it's just the ice giving it a bit more disturbance.
I also drink it through the grid thing at the top of the shaker so most lumps are left to the end if any are left. -

I make it at home in the flatmates nutri bullet then chuck it in the fridge at work till lunch.
-
• #324
Ya big jessies!
It's only a few lumps. Just shake it, down it, and off ya go! -
