  • Always HED

  • Those Pulse ryde rims are pretty nice

  • Bike isn't that swag!

  • Have just read they're only for light people. That I am not.

  • Your opinion is dtm

  • Dave uses them, not broken them yet, and he's a little chunky monkey

  • Wait, you're not light?? you can't be heavier than me.

  • Ryde rims ❤️

  • That I am not.

    It's rated at 90kg, honestly looking at the spec and cross section, I honestly think you will be fine.

  • I have had a pair of DCR turbo tub rims on my cx. Lovely and light.

  • Why go for a road disc rim? Any 29er rim with the right internal will work. I got WTB i-21s on my disc build. 440g for £40. 21mm internal which I'd happily use 28s for (cant remember what tyre youre planning on using for this)

  • A lot of 29er rims are not designed for road tyre pressures.

  • With a wide internal and wide tyre its unlikely you'll be using 70+psi. Most 29er hoops will be fine with that. People have even run 80 in Stans Crests which are only rated to 40psi or something

  • People have even run 80 in Stans Crests.

    Including @JB

  • Yeah but that was before Road disc rims for wide tyres really existed Scoble's. And @turkish purely because it's a road bike and I don't want any mountain bike components on it :-)

  • Crest Mk3 rims now weight a mere 364g.

    Mountain bike part are sometime lighter.

  • I run DCR's 25c road rims on the gangsta and they're amazing. Light, very strong and even tyres go better on them and not been plagued by problems like the Pacenti 25's. Just as a side note I have had all my wheels built by DCR and their communication, service and final product is top notch. They even put up with the nightmare that was the 3rensho wheel build.
    Can't wait to see this JB, it's going to be epic!! T

  • Arent you using a cyclocross fork though? Are hope disc hubs not a mountain bike component? Seems a shame to limit yourself to heavy/expensive road disc rims, when years worth of MTB improvements are available, like the Crest Mk3 that ed mentioned

  • Are hope disc hubs not a mountain bike component?

    RS4's are designed specifically for the road.

  • People have even run got away with running 80 in Stans Crests.

    If the rim isn't designed for high pressure tubeless, why on earth would you risk it. Tyre blowouts are scary shit.

  • If you look at the ZTR Grail rims, you'll notice that it rated for a lower pSI the bigger the tyres;

    Max Pressure with 28mm Tire: 100psi
    Max Pressure with 32mm Tire: 45psi

    The ZTR Iron Cross max pressure is;

    Max Pressure with 32mm Tire: 39psi

    Unless you're one of those people who decided to run the max tyres pressure said on the sidewall, there's little to no reason why you can't ride an MTB or Cyclocross rims.

  • None of that ^ makes 80psi in Crests a good idea.

  • The point is there's no need to run 80psi if you intend to run above 28mm.

    50, maybe 60psi will sufficient.

    Unless @JB is a massive 120kg heavy weigher.

  • Thanks to your tireless campaigning, I think we're all well aware of the benefits of low pressure tyres by now Ed ;-)

    Still, if my tubeless system failed, I'd rather have a warranty to fall back on.

  • Why worry about the manufacturers guidelines when people on the interwebz with no liability say it will be fine?
