  • I am going to try with a more powerful rear QR as mine is weight weenie. if not I will upgrade to a thru axle caad one day

  • I had 'weight weenie' qr skewers on my caad10. Used to get so much wheel flex it was unreal. Turned out to be down to the shit skewers. Swapped them out and stopped getting 'flex'. And yes, I did them up real tight. I can imagine the problem is just as bad with disc brakes and 'flex' or in this case movement of the wheel causing rubbing.

  • ^ yep might be worth a shot.

  • £50 for a pair? are they that much better than shimano?

  • They 'convert' QR to a kinda bolt-on. Not sure Shimano sell something like that.

  • I've got the 9mm RWS bolt-thru-alike for the front, standard RWS for the rear. Zero rubbing.

  • I know how they work, but are they 'that' much better than the shimano ones which are hugely cheaper.

  • which shimano ones are these? my discs sing a bit at slow speeds when out of the saddle - i assume its a combination of the shit cheap gappy weight weenie discs + shit weight weenie skewers

  • Ever bought a pair of XTR skewers? Not quite as wallet bashing, but close :)

  • But do XTR work better than Deore?

  • In my experience, no, as Deore work so well.

Of course, Deore and up is all you really need on mtb groupsets for functionality*

*because bikes are all about function..

  • Still, shiny things are shiny.

  • Depends on what you are measuring; XT is lighter, as are the ratchet mechanism DT swiss jobbies.

In theory, you should be able to achieve a greater clamping force with the DT ratchet skewers; the 'throw' of the lever is infinite (circular).

Not sure how it works in practice. Lots of internet folks seem very happy with them, and as usual some are not.

  • Any old Shimano QR will do, just go to your LBS and ask them for their spare Shimano skewers.

  • Or some pitlock / pinheads - get some pseudo-security and aero in to the bargain ;)

@swedeee you have Tune hubs, get bling QR. You know you want to.

  • Anyone know if cannondale will be doing synapse adventure in 2017

  • Where them sub £1k hydro disc big tyre bikes at?

  • ANY sub £900 bike, 650b wheelset and those WTB tyres.

  • narrow wide but a direct mount guide on a hardtail..... does not compute...

  • Ref skewer talk - this is my front skewer, it's as close to bolt-thru as you're going to get whilst working with a QR fork:

  • £50 though!

  • those hubs were cheap werent they? ;)
