  • What makes you say mixed finishing kit colour, the stem?

    Yes, silver would probably be my first choice. I'm also seeing white hoods, and white bar tape you were saying? Lots of different colours! Frame is already interesting on its own due to the paint, might get a little busy. Just my two cents!

  • ... and then you add in gumwalls into the mix, I get you. Reluctant to ditch the stem as it's original but possibly black tyres will stop it all getting a bit much. Black bars would have been more period but personally I like the contrast of silver bars and black quill stem. Was planning on fitting a DA 9000 chainset but possibly Ultegra 6800 might keep things more subdued.

  • 7 days isnt bad .. stung by duties?

  • @Tijs black tyres/rims do make it look less noisy (excuse the crude editing).

    @amey I know, fortunately not.

  • The grey of the cranks will mesh nicely with the dark blue

  • If you were running silver rims then I'd say ditch the black stem. But you're not, so the black stem should work with the black rims (and black saddle and black gear leavers). Black and white aren't really colours as such (they are achromatic colours) so you should be able to absorb as much of it as you like.
    As it stands you've got pink, blue, black, white and a bit of silver, which is pretty understated in my opinion, so you probably could get away with gumwalls if that's what you fancy. In any case, it's looking like a well coordinated build.

    NB. In light of the saddle being black, I'd be inclined to keep the hoods black but the bar-tape white - see the Concorde you cited at the start of the thread.

  • God this is so good. I've just bought one but it's too small for me. The guy listed it as a 55 but it's a 52...sob :(

  • @spotter good point. Slowly realising having a full matching group can be just as/more satisfying that blinged out non matching parts.

    @The_Kindness_of_Trees all good points. I guess the obvious choice would be to have black tape with mathing hoods but always imagined white tape on my Moser.

    @LeChef thanks, no pressure now. Sounds sensible you've realised it's too small instead of trying to make it work. Any pics?

  • Go with the white bar-tape. It will compliment the white detail on the frame.

  • Black tape and hoods gets my vote.

    Full black/grey build will make the frame pop like it's hot.

  • White hoods/tape sounds like a good plan but with that groupset maybe all black is the right choice.

    @MultiGrooves You got it.

    Food for thought...

  • If you don't see it...

  • Been looking at it far too long, but yeah frame certainly does pop most with everything black. A few more small parts arriving this week so getting there slowly...

  • If black rims pls edit those breaking surfaces to silver (unless crabon)!

  • All black ! +black headset

  • love the pink

  • Thanks guys, will get the wheels built up (with silver spokes) and see what it looks like. Slightly resisting the all black approach, as effective as it is, not quite what I want.

  • pink! pink! pink! pink!

    fwiw Deda neon pink bar tape fades quickly. I'm trying the Lizardskins one next

  • Hmmm... white tape/black hoods was my first thought, but that pink tape (with black hoods) looks pretty funky and matches the front end.

  • No real major updates until next week when I pick up the wheels. Caved and went for the matching Ultegra hubs, Mack's correspondence and lead time was the decider, although sure they're great pieces of kit. Having matching hubs has its own satisfaction though.

  • I just started building up my second set of wheels with 6800 hubs, the first set have been used pretty much for a solid year, including a grim salty Scottish winter, and are still rolling smoothly. I'll service the bearings while i'm replacing the worn out rims, but more so it's done and I can forget about it than they actually need it yet.

    I listened to an interview with Keith Bontrager recently where he was saying all bike hubs should be cup & cone but for some reason consumers will only accept it from Shimano.

  • Third vote for white tape and black hoods here. It fits the neo retro bill perfectly
