  • It's a Metism that I've had no truck with and I'm fucking retired now so ner.

  • I do have a plumbed-in commercial espresso machine but for boiling water for a single cup it's a bit overkill and it was using too much power to leave on.

  • Pott wie Deckel.

  • Get a Dualit.

And one of their toasters too.

  • Do we need a microwave thread?

  • Not until I need a new one.

  • Does the Dualit boil dry and burn your house down or just turn off and sit there until the water gets cold and you have to boil it again?

  • What sort of magic kettle are you after?

  • One that uses no power but boils water instantly. Preferably whilst playing cool music and washing my bikes.

  • +1 for the Dualit above. Boils fast, pours perfectly with no dribble and is very minimal internally so descales well.

    5/7

  • Girlfriend is what you want then.

  • I've got a similar model which you can stick loose tea into, it then lowers the tea into the water for you, then raises it out again, you can customise the brewing time and water temperature, all largely pointless, but the quite satisfying...

  • Talk about reinventing the wheel...

  • Totally... I couldn't really point that out though as it was a Christmas present.

  • Her taste in music is suspect.

  • There's nothing unhealthy about drinking hard water, it's just some extra chalk, basically. The reason to reduce it is for the health of your kettle, not you. The scrunchy wire balls, I think, just have a lot of surface area compared with the inside of the kettle, so attract a proportionate amount of scale deposit, away from depositing on your kettle. I realise I'm a few pages behind...

  • Missus doesn't like flakes of stuff from the kettle in her tea. Might not be harmful but it's still not nice.

Obviously never listened to PJ Harvey.

  • In the duration of this thread being inactive has there been any active development in the Kettle industry that anyone can enlighten me with please? I live in an 'aard water area, and my Russ Hobb's seems to enjoy coughing up Dorito size chunks of limescale into my lukewarm cups.. enough is enough.

  • Oust is your friend. I have to do my kettle regularily and it works a treat.

  • I never knew there was kettle thread.

  • Recently got the Dualit Studio, works well, nicely made, boils water. Miss my Porsche mk2 though, a thing of beauty.

The Dualit Classic toaster is however, a triumph of form over function. Frankly a pain in the arse, I've had £20 toasters that are easier to use.

  • I've been putting off buying a new kettle for 6 months whilst in the process of splitting up. God I can't wait to be free and single and lonely with a great new kettle - that'll show her.

  • Good timing on the thread dredge, I got home today to find my kettle and the base unit was red hot even though it hasn't been used today so I'm probably in the market for a new one.
