  • One more piece of the puzzle sorted (almost), need about cm or so taken off the steerer. Very pleased! When my refund comes through I'm going to buy everything I need to finish it, which include:

    Campy cages/straps
    Bar tape
    Campy chainring
    Campy 16t cog
    Nicer saddle (maybe)

Waiting for Mitch to finish his exams then he's going to build my sheriff stars up. Don't think I mentioned before, I sorted a set of mavic open 4cd nos rims so the wheelset all the parts for the wheels are sorted! Happy days

  • Sadly something bad has happened..

I took the frame and forks to the bike shop to get the steerer cut down and they've cut it too short by about 1cm. So basically the campag headset no longer fits. They've fitted a tange headset which fits because of the low stack height free of change to make up for it. I'm disappointed but realise that it isn't the end of the world, I don't want to make a huge fuss. To be honest I'm at a stage where I just want to ride the shit out of it.

  • Don't worry about it, just enjoy your bike. Sounds like such an amateur move from a bike shop but shit happens sometimes. In the bigger scheme of things you've built up a rad bike and there are far worse things that happen all the fucking time. As you wrote, now's the time to ride the shit out of it. Don't stress!

  • This ^ Grip it and rip it

  • Yeah, I know the guy who did it and when I spoke to him he was genuinely apologetic about it. He said he checked it 3 times but somehow messed up on the cut. I acknowledge though that mistakes happen and sometimes you just have to deal with it. Going to build it up tonight and give it a real test once the roads are quiet. Going to fit the disc on the rear for maximum fun :-)

Just did a little searching and if I wanted to I could probably get a campy record pista headset to fit, has a stack of about 33mm, but that won't be till the future

  • Sounds like a good plan. Pics?

  • How I'll be riding it until sheriff stars are done

  • Love it. Really coming together nicely, gunna look the bizz with a brand spanking wheelset on it.

Determined to get my hands on a disc wheel someday...

  • Cheers!

I would encourage you to get one, lots of fun, very noisy! My disc count is 3 now haha

  • Seriously?! What a giant fuck up... Didn't you get this fork because the original one was too short?

  • Does this mean that there's a headset for sale?

  • Its been a long journey, I'd actually ordered these before I got the Tommasini ones which are too short, but really I wanted a set of track forks in columbus air. I would of made much more a fuss if they were too short to fit any headset on however a change of headset is something I can live with

  • Most definitely yes :-)

  • Could you get the heat tube faced a few mm? The top side more than the bottom so not to affect the geo

  • This was mentions but it would need a lot taken off, its about 1cm off from fitting. Now if I was to get the pista c-record version, that takes off 4mm, a bit of selective sanding, head tube faced by a couple of mm, and it could all fit..

  • I'd be getting the shop to buy a new fork for you, that is no good at all. A few mm you can excuse but a whole cm....

  • lovely, how long is that stem?

    ^
Do kind of agree, you could get more to compensate, but am sure you've have enough fork business.

  • it's a tough one, my mate is saying the same thing. I think if they'd of taken off more so that they couldn't get any headset on that would of been reason to request a new fork, however they didn't and though it is annoying, it isn't the end of the world.

Plus I wouldn't want to wait 3 more months to ride it...

  • Pearl 12 so 130mm

  • So fun to ride! Found the perfect late night photo location

  • That sounds like a good plan. I would try and push for them to source a pista c-record headset in exchange for the one they gave you + hassle etc. Build is looking great, get some bar end plugs though

  • Would be nice but I doubt they'd be able to find one, even I can't find one... Problem is the pista and normal version look exactly the same. I'm okay to leave it as it is right now.

Cheers, there is a bad plug on the other side, for got to put the other one back in when I changed the stem...

  • I knew Faggin was the way to go! Looks boss! Did you try to fit an older campag hs? Afaik Gran Sport has lower stack than C-record, often you can find them on old italian pista frames, even my Somec came originally fitted with one of them.
How much did Faggin set you off at the end?

  • Thanks! Yeah I think a record pista headset would fit, has a 33mm ish stack. There's actually a Somec same as yours on eBay which I'm considering, currently trying to see how low I can get him on the price haha

Faggin fork was £200 which isn't actually that bad considering it was fully chromed

  • I didn't see that Somec! I agree the asking price is a bit off considering for how much they went for originally (all sold by the same person)!
Whatever you can pay it, you won't regret, it'll be a nice addition to the stable.
