RIP Big Daddy Wayne

Never met the chap, though enjoyed his contributions on here. Always a tragedy when someone is taken too soon. RIP BDW.

So sorry to hear. I met Wayne in about 2009 when I went round to his place to buy the "B" off the burger king sign in Putney which he'd salvaged (he'd kept the letters "GRIN").

We drank excellent coffee and pored over rare design books. Wayne then helped me expertly tie the letter onto my bag with old inner tubes.

The "B" has meant "Baby", then when my daughter turned into a toddler it's come to mean "Bathroom" - I suppose it will now always mean "Big Daddy Wayne" - if there's somewhere this can now be put as a memorial to him (bike/coffee shop), i'd be more than happy to donate it...

Shocking news. Only met Wayne a couple of times, was a lovely man and full of beans. My heartfelt condolences to his friends and family.

Savage loss.
I bought quite a bit of kit off Wayne during my earlier years on the Forum, and remember him meeting me off the train at Marylebone on the first occasion - cos he thought i was nuts to travel down for a Thomson seatpost. On realising i had family nearby, and that i was 'staying' he shouted me a beer.
I also remember catching up with him in Manchester at the Track Champs, fully resplendent in Gruppetto kit - and not happy with the state of the coffee.

I have nothing more eloquent to add that's not already been said. I didn't know Wayne personally but enjoyed his hugely positive influence on the forum. Best wishes to his nearest and dearest.

We were talking about the Burger King sign last night. He kept GRIN? I recalled him keeping URGE for some reason. Happy to stand corrected.

I have the U from that Burger King sign.

He gave it to me and my girlfriend after he'd seen we visited the Buchstaben Museum in Berlin (a huge collection of these sort of letters)

I don't get on here much any more but it's through here I met Wayne. After going on a bunch of Surrey Hills rides with Jaygee, dov etc they suggested I should meet Grupetto.

Being from the same part of the world, we immediately hit it off, and felt welcomed into the heart of Grupetto almost straight away.

I've made some true friends through this, and through his continual interest, support and encouragement I've ridden places and done things I would never have really thought of prior.

The most amazing thing to me is that while I knew he was an amazing bloke, you never really understand how many other people's lives he touched in the same way.

Hope be understood this in his own lifetime.

Wayne had the GRIN letters on the balcony of his flat in Putney. I always wondered where they came from and oddly I never asked him. He also had some letters which came from another shop sign, (i think it was an old taxi cab firm) in his kitchen that said PIE. They always made me laugh, as I knew what his post ride "recovery foods" were like !

in my mind i'm trying to work out how Wayne salvaged these letters, hanging round Putney and going through builders skips and then loading them up into his messenger bag perhaps @hippy or Ricky know more...

I'm pretty sure he said he'd paid the fitters £50 to take them - he'd been waiting to pounce on them after seeing it close apparently!

I never knew BDW, but it's wonderful to read all his friend's musings....he clearly was a special bloke, with attributes that we can all try to aspire to. Keep the good anecdotes coming....they are heartwarming to read!

Never before have I felt genuinely upset on hearing of the passing of someone who was a stranger to me......that speaks volumes, I think.

Wow, just heard the terrible news. I've bought bits off BDW for number of years and have a lovely set of DA hubs sitting in the sock draw waiting to get built up. Truly lovely guy and happy to lend an ear, especially when he found out we were going through the adoption process.
I think the world will be a darker place and huge condolences to friends and family as he was an absolute gem

Was crying with laughter at the Viking photos last night. I'm looking forward to seeing you guys and having a proper knees up in his honour.
