  • and, a little surprised you didn't go for the 6401 STIs, like these, only NOS

  • I did think about it, but thought that downtube shifters would suit the retro nature of it.

It's not a massive hardship to swap to STI's if I wish.

Front mech clamp - still unsure, really annoyed that the original has been lost in the post, that's pretty much irreplaceable.

Bummer. Could you get a replica machined?

  • I suspect that might cost more than the rest of the bike.

In other news, this turned up today:

And as it won't go in, I think that answers the "is it 27.4mm?" question.

  • That Phil Wood BB turned up (eye-wateringly expensive, but beautifully made), if anyone wants it please shout - I'd need to see ~£170 for it.

  • Ouch.
(reply to #229, but equally valid for #230)

  • £170

    Wuut

I guess they have the recoup the tooling and design time cost on the ten they sell every year

  • Yes. They make the only BB for these frames that allows a modern crankset to be used, and they make it to an extraordinary degree of precision - and you pay for both of those things, and in my case international shipping and customs+VAT on top.

  • Also, if anyone needs a 27.4mm Dura Ace seatpost in NOS/perfect condition, please let me know.

  • One of my favorite groups. Very nice choice for this frame:)

  • You don't piss round do you?!? This seems to have come together very quickly! Very impressed. Wonder what the average number of packages that the post man needs to deliver to put together a build like this? How many 'delivery miles'?

  • getting sweaty palms looking at that group...

  • How many 'delivery miles'?

A few, to be sure - I bought the frame back from Colorado, so that's 4,720 miles just to start off with. The majority of the groupset parts have come from sellers in the Netherlands.

The headset (an EDCO Competition) has come from the USA and is now stuck in the Fedex warehouse in fucking Dartford.

  • All looks great. Frame and wheels already look super. Shimano 600 has a great colour to it; I think it will suit the (paint of the) frame perfectly. Can't wait to see it built up! Shame about the post though, but shit happens.

  • In glass-half-full news, I have a NOS 600 27.2 post on the way, which makes the group complete - everything bar the headset will be 600.

  • Which is a point - NOS 6400 headsets are fucking impossible to find.

  • :)

  • check Hilary Stone, he sometimes has them

  • 27.2 seatpost doesn't fit either. Arse.

It'd have been nice if the seller a) hadn't lost the front mech clamp and b) could remember what the post diameter was.

Now- the end of the 27.2 will go in, but then it gets stuck, do I gamble on this being a 27.0?

    Or could it be 26.8?

Who would like a NOS 27.2 600 post?

  • Why not buy a few kalloy posts at a tenner each in every size before buying more expensive seatposts you just have to sell on? Crap in the seatube could stop the post getting in as well

  • Impatience is the honest answer! But that's probably sensible.
