Hmm, that's not ideal, but then neither is the £224 for a NOS DA 7400 cassette

I have a lightly used 8spd Dura-Ace cassette.
12-21 though.

I'll pop down the shed and see if it's 7400 ( no idea ).
-
• #156
7400 covered the move from 6-8 speed, 7700 was 9, 7800 was 10 - so I reckon it's a strong chance of being 7400. The ratios will go well with the 52/43 rings.

^my 'rottas on 53/42 and 12-23. Is not too bad, really. Apart from when it's awful, but then at least you look good walking the thing.

42/21 as my lowest gear. Erk.

Well, nothing written on it. All the sprockets are separate and it has a matt grey finish.
Not my pic ( too dark )
If you're interested, I'll have a look for the lock-ring tomorrow.

It's about time I upgraded to 9spd.

Fiamme Hard Silver. Don't know if they are age appropriate.

sjs has loads of 8 speed Shimano cassettes, don't be precious about it being 7400

I think I'll take BN up on his offer of shed-searching (please PM me with how much and how to recompense you), if I'm going to fire a patella into the undergrowth I may as well do it with commitment.

Added: although he seems to have shag all stock of 32h.

I think the frame would look good with an aero profiled rim like the omega.

I bought the Omega's

Sweet.

Yes, right down to 12-21t if you want to keep it nice and retrogrouchy (HG50).
-
• #169
Excellent, looks like it's coming together. Hope they are in good condition.
One hypothetical though – had you been buying this in the 90's, and being bike obsessed would you have left it in factory spec or would you have done what most people do and 'upgrade' everything with awesome 90's parts? What I'm getting at is spinergy... -

This looks like the build list:
- Edco headset
- Ultegra 130mm stem (NOS)
- Nitto Noodle bars (the ones that were on my Serotta originally)
- 6400 non-aero levers (NOS)
- 6401 8 speed SIS downtube shifters (NOS)
- 6400 braze on front mech
- 6400 aero-cage rear mech
- 600/6400 hubs on Campag Omega tubular rims
- 6403 brakes (NOS)
- 6400 52/43 172.5 cranks (NOS)
- 7400 21-21 8 speed cassette
I still need a seatpost, but I need to confirm what size that is first, and I'll need to pick up an SMP.
- Edco headset

Paired with a sensible retro chainset, say 53/44, and you'll get over anything
