Quite a bit.
I haven't been offered xcr and I reckonspirit will do fine... See my previous comment about how any tubes will be good given the geo is what I want. ;)

Ah, I see what you're saying. The link says that Columbus spirit bi-ovalised tubes are available on request. Maybe its a custom drawn tube? Or maybe the shop takes a mega tube and bends it to bi-ovalise?
That is a massive frame in the picture on their site, so it probably needs the tube shaping. Mine will be tiny so I reckon circular is fine.

That reasoning about frame size is wrong. I am pretty sure.

But what about the availability of bi ovalised tubes?

They might be history? Will call Germany.

And so it begins.

Whoa, four pages since I last checked in on this. My Rychtarski is all columbus max and there's nothing wrong with it, super stiff compared to some older steel frames I've ridden, but I'm sure you'll like the tubing you've chosen just as much. Now I'm eager for some pics of the thing in progress!

So now I just need to choose the colour! The toughest decisions always come last.

Don't worry, you're sure to get a LOT of suggestions :-)

• #288
That's what I'm hoping for!
You'd paint it the same colour as me, only bigger, right?
-

Orange.

Funny you should mention that.
So I talked about black and orange earlier in the thread. I've dug out my inspiration:
You can probably see a theme developing here. And yeah, I should just call the whole thing off and get an Independent. :)

I love orange bikes, and will eventually get one.

I'm also into playing off different textures in the same colour, so very dark grey or black with a matt finish for the frame, could go well with gloss black components.
Another version of that approach would be a gloss black frame with details picked out in grey, maybe with a CK pewter headset (yes, @JB your suggestion is starting to gain a foothold...)

You should get your talbot done in that orange, it would look boss.
I used to really fancy getting a bob jackson in the same colour, but that was a few years ago and I've become more into black since then.
-
• #295
The main reason I went with black is that I can get away with any bar tape colour.
Easy way to keep up the trend.
-
• #296
Yeah it's a timeless colour I reckon. Did you actually put the pink CK on your elephant?
-
• #297
How about front half gloss black, rear half matte? With a defined diagonal line where they change? Like two tone.
-
• #298
You should get your talbot done in that orange
Certainly considered it for a while. I think I'd rather save orange for something more road-orientated though.

Was going to, but it fit a little too easily (only required a bit of force with my hand), wasn't certain it'll stay put, kept the cheap and cheerful Ritchey on instead.
The cartridge bearing on the Ritchey is cheap and easy to replace, in fact I might as well just buy a new headset for £10 instead and replace the internal (half that on trade).

You might be onto something there...

Columbus Max tubes are bi-oval but spirit are circular, unless I'm going mad....
There is spirit megatube but it seems to be unidirectional oval.

I reckon standard circular tubes for me, given megatubes are for heavy riders who put out megawatts.
