  • "It is regretted that, due to cirumstances beyond their control, Team Quest’s Reliability Ride due to be held on January 25th will not take place."

  • Thanks to all 198 (wow!) riders who rode the Beds Road CC RR today. Perfect conditions, great atmosphere back at the club house afterwards for free soup and rolls. Next one is a 71 miler on 22 Feb. £5 including soup etc, or all free if you rode today's event.

  • Willesden CCs is on this weekend.

  • All being well (and weather) will be doing the 60 km.

    Need to sort overshoes.

  • Isn't that this weekend?

  • Gladys tells me that Meurig might be riding.

World 24hr TT grudge match moves to the Chilterns for Round 2

  • Sorry, misread - cold head ... Monday ... old ....

  • @hippy you ride for Willesden CC?

  • Yes, though mostly I ride in Grupetto colours.

  • Thanks for the heads up on that Hippy, some nice folk at Willesden CC. Spotted Marcus from Sore in the Saddle.

Shade under 70km complete at a little over 3 hours - some nice roads (and some very shitty) but otherwise pretty good ride out.

  • Yeah had a chat with @marcusjb at the start.

I did the 112k. Just under 4 hrs after being blown out the back of the fast group at 34k mark. Cake then home :)

  • Twitter chatter about a death during Otley reliability?

  • Good to see you @hippy

Good day out, especially for the time of year.

Being on fixed, I got frustrated with being in a big group with random speeds up the hills, so went off the front of that and rode solo for the rest of the day.

A little walk up Smalldean Lane was planned for, and indeed, needed. Other than that, most of the climbing was very fixed friendly and all good stuff.

    Very sad news indeed.

RIP rider - my thoughts are with your friends and family.

  • I've never had to walk Smalldean but I've not yet ridden it fixed or on the TT bike so there's still time :)

  • Added to the Rider Down thread. Poor bugger. :(

  • Ah, you were on that lovely Condor. Nice ride.

Sad news about Rider Down, R.I.P.

  • Smalldean is beyond me on fixed - in days gone by, I might have had a proper bash at it (I've come close to getting up it in the past), but older and wiser (not wise enough to bring gears mind!), I know that the effort required to get even a 67" gear up there would put me so far into the red that I'd be feeling it for the rest of the ride.

It's also the location of Steve Abraham snapping his handlebars trying to haul himself up it on his usual 80-90 inch gear (one of a few locations of him snapping handlebars I believe!).

  • You're a whippet. Throw caution to the wind and smash up it one day. Sure, your legs will be caned for a few minutes afterwards but you'll probably be surprised when you can continue to put the power down after that initial shock.

The front end of my bike is squeaking like a bastard at the moment. I'm hoping it's just headset bearings full of their usual British road sludge but if I don't make it back from the Wye Wed you can remind me about strange noises being a reason to inspect and service a bike..

Two washes in two days for the Kinesis is so unheard of I actually took today off because I don't want it to get dirty again when it pisses down tonight!

  • Might be doing this one if I can drag myself out of bed early enough to get to the start..
