This is the well-known Harp Hilly Hundred starting and finishing at the Hemel Hempstead CC Club House; for location map go to http://www.hemelcycling.org.uk/about/general-information/find-clubroom. This starts off following a similar route as the Hemel event through to Bovingdon then it takes on its own character taking on the hilly bits of the northern Chilterns through Berkhamsted, Whipsnade (the infamous Bison Hill) then onto Aston Hill near Halton and tracking back through Tring, Ivinghoe Beacon, Ley Hill to the Hemel clubroom for a well earned rest.

    Sunday 3rd February
    Hemel Hempstead CC 100km & 50km (start 9 am)

HQ – Hemel Hempstead CC Clubroom

    For details contact:
    Tim Hart
    tim.hart@hemelcycling.org.uk

This third reliability trial of the series starts and finishes at the Hemel Hempstead CC Club House in Nash Mills recreation centre, near Kings Langley, Hemel Hempstead, for location map see http://www.hemelcycling.org.uk/about/general-information/find-clubroom. This is a very attractive but testing route through the Chilterns which travels out through Chesham, Wendover and Chinnor returning through Speen, Great Missenden, Chesham, Kings Langley and back to the club house with refreshments. It is a hilly circuit climbing some of the well-known Chiltern Hills of Chinnor and the notorious 1 in 4, Small Dean Lane, a killer but mercifully short, also Frith Hill is included in the route. The 50 km route option turns short of Wendover returning through Chesham.

Entries on the day from 8:15 am. Entry fee £5.00.

For those that need the assistance of a GPS device and don’t like the adventure of using our route map + directions, you can get the route from RideWithGPS (but you know it is really cheating):

  • Just signed up for the Willesden event (100k) this Sunday. Anyone else doing it?

  • I usually try to either ride or help but I'm out the night before and the night before and the night before that so I may very well not be conscious at kick-off.

  • I can't make this which is a shame as weather looks good (always seems to be for the Willesden one!)
I've still got to get half the signs down from ours, don't know when that will happen...
People riding, don't follow orange signs if you see any this Sunday!

  • Maybe I could help at ours and then ride your route to take your signs down? :)

  • Yes, good plan. Take some narrow- nosed pliers for undoing the cable ties!

Only problem is that we've got the near signs down, so you'd be stuck when they run out not knowing where you are!

  • GPS route and just remove everything?

If you fancy it, I will owe you some beers!

  • Don't get your hopes up, I haven't had a drink for a month and now I'm booked for four nights on the trot. Shit's gonna get messy. Any idea of how many signs and what they look like (other than orange)?

  • Probably about 20 signs. They're smallish, orange, (most have Westerley badge on them, but not all do) and they start at Penn Street and finish around Hazlemere. They're pretty spread out on the far end of the ride.
    Enjoy the next four nights!

  • Haha okay, you may have given me enough motivation to actually ride outside. We shall see. :)

  • Hang on, so I could just do from Penn St to the finish?

  • Yes, not even the finish - leg out to Burnham Beeches is done. It's the far bit, out towards Princes Risborough that isn't done. The signs are well spaced out over there but they are obviously further away

  • Oh, I get it, I thought the route went the other way and wondered why the close bit was the issue, but didn't think much of it since you've not been riding. I'll see what happens Sat night, actually I could do it Sat morning depends what we end up doing Fri night. Anyway, no promises but it might be enough of a task to get me outside.

  • Cool - any you get is a bonus. But make sure you don't take down any Willesden ones by mistake!
One year we had somebody go out on the day to take down signs after the last rider, but they did the short route and got ahead of the last riders on the long route...

  • Got loads. Where do you want them?

  • Thanks! Whatever is easiest for you - I'll pick up from you or you can drop at my house, office in Paddington, anywhere you are passing.

  • Not in Paddington any more but if you PM me your address I can drop them off one night.
