Bought some Thorn disc forks for this and a Surly Nice Rack. Bike will be well heavy but go anywhere I reckon.
Hopefully the forks will eat 2.0" tyres and be a bit more comfortable with extra steerer length. Now I just need to sign up for some more adventures...

This bike is due an update. It is currently setup for cx duty, but I have an singlespeed cx I am going to do the rest of the season on.
I have bought 650b wheels, tyres and a Surly 24 rack. I am going all touring now.
Currently I am modifying the Thorn forks to allow for the rack to be mounted.
I am going for Sram x7 rear mech, 11-36 casette and a 42T front ring. I was going for Dynamo front hub but I don't have an actual need right now and money can be spend building a new frame jig and eventually a new cx bike.
I also remounted the old headbadge, this time mechanically with a pair of M2 bolts.. -

Any recommendations for a pair of mudguards that would look dope on this? I would like something that could fit 650b x 2.1" tyres and in matte black.

Just a pair of mudguards and perhaps a dynamo away from being done.
I have ordered a pair of Sks blumels 65mm mudguards, but I dreaming about VO black steel mudguards.
I am also looking for a black Tubus low rider rack. Let me know if you see any used ones going cheap somewhere.

It was a real struggle to mount the mudguards.
I had to use the rear stays on the front to get flex enough to use the inside of the rack mounts on the forks.
Also I had to extend the front stay to fit the rear. My silly dropouts and placement of threaded eyelets has meant that standard SKS stays are not long enough. I fixed this with the leftovers from the stays mounted on the front, a bit of copper wire and some silver solder.Get the right mudguard lines required some spacers and a lot of on and off. In the end I had to file the mudguards where they meet the fork legs and chain stays. 65mm is too wide I guess, but now I have super protections from water and grime, albeit a giant toe overlap ;-)
BTW I need some suggestions for off the shelf mudflaps wide enough to fit 65mm mudguards or suggestions to materials to make them from. Last ones I made from rubber weren't strong enough where they were riveted to the mudguards.

Ass savers as mudflaps?
-
• #270
I just riveted this baby on. I made it from a plastic binder size A4. Reckon I could make 3-4 similar flaps from the same 1-2£ binder and it is quite sturdy but with enough flex that it won't break the mudguard if it hits anything.
Also mine are 65mm as well.

Not wide enough for 65mm guards though. I tried.

Looks good. Thx

Man this looks so good

I just cut up old tyres to make mudflaps. Works well and follows the line of the wheel nicely.

You're using the wrong ass saver then. Mine is the full width of a 155mm Toupe saddle.
Cable adjustment.
Road group has adjustment at the deraileur.
Mtb group at the lever.
He could have used an inline cable adjuster, but chose to tap the deraileur and fit a barrel adjuster in it.
