You sure? How much sleep is he getting? How much does he 'need'?
It's something I'm trying to get to the bottom of from the data. What tends to happen is that there are a series of longer days and then it all falls apart and he has a short day that wipes out the gains made by the longer days. He has to probe to find out what works for him.

Before the moped incident he was tracking really nicely. Since then he's been wasting daylight hours.
On the aggressive end of his schedules I think Steve has vastly underestimated how much sleep he needs. The really thick end of the schedule calls for 18 hours riding time a day during the summer months. That doesn't leave much time left for admin, washing, eating and then sleeping whatever remains.
Anyway, the answer isn't going to come purely from a distance looking at graphs and data, but it's something that helps occupy my tiny brain.

Then again, Kurt is on 75650 with two days to go (I think - Mr Drem your spreadsheet is giving different totals for Kurt on the Comparison Days tab and the Comparison Dates tab), so that could be 76150 if he does 200 miles on each of the last two days. That would mean Steve has 1000 miles (4.5mpd) less to do than the plan, or means he can lose a few days to illness or bad weather.

Lots of bollocks about Godwin being paced by a pro team (there weren't such things back then) or drafting lorries (limited to 20mph back then) for the summer.
The truth (according to Dave Barter who wrote The Year and researched it greatly) was that he was actively paced for the high mileage 5 months by his coach Charley Davey. This "active pacing" was being shouted at by Davey from a car, not drafting the car, just being shouted at.
On yacf Dave Barter (Citizenfish) writes about the theory he drafted lorries:-

His coach Charley Davey was a tough wizened record breaker who had taken the 24hr record and many other nails events. He would have taken no nonsense from Godwin and the record shows he harried him on during his five months of active pacing. Godwin's 348 day was witnessed by Cycling magazine, no mention of lorries, and clear indication in his splits that he rode fast then recovered, repeat.Neat theory, little evidence that he used it during the Davey months. However, afterwards when the pacing was stopped I suspect he would have welcomed any lorry tows available.

Right, The UMCA have added data to the 4th of Jan to their sheet, which means that Steve's original distance is now all ratified, but that not all of Kurt's is. Bruce is not showing anywhere on their data sets yet, and there's no announcement of his attempt on their news pages.

Tonight Steve hit a pothole, about 120-miles into his ride, which has damaged his rear wheel so badly he can't ride the bike any further.
Big thanks to Andrew (from the support team) for making the 200-mile return trip with a replacement bike, at such short notice.
This delay will be a big setback for Steve - against his new January mileage plan (and the record target in general) - but he plans to fight to get these lost miles back and still meet his January target... -

Further update (bold bit my emphasis):-
Hit a pothole and my rear tyre went down.
I couldn't find the cause easily in the dark so instead of spending time investigating I fitted a new tyre with an innertube.
Had a bit of bother getting the wheel back in and when I did, the disk brake was rubbing a bit.
Decided to get going and call for help while I planned my next move.
A new wheel would also need a new chain because my transmission is shot after the recent wet weather. Plus I don't know why the rear brake is rubbing and don't want to spend time investigating in the cold and darkDecided on taking a rest and having a meal.
Now going to go through the night and through to tomorrow night, hopefully for an early night.
I should mostly have a tailwind and the good main roads should be quiet.
Going to ride the A148 from Kings Lynn to Cromer, A149 to Yarmouth the A12 to Ipswich or Stowmarket for breakfast.
There should be hotels nearby on that route if I start to get sleepy.
